5.0 out of 5 stars Sabrosura!!!!!!!!! (Tasty!), July 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Anything Goes (Audio CD)
This is not the best album in the world in terms of popularity. It does not even have the best line up of songs. However, a few kernels of greatness exist. Start of with the album's pastiche fushion of dance music furnished by C+C, lyrical soulfulness provided by Zelma Davis and Martha Wash, and a "cute" rap delivered by then latino new comers Trilogy...the song is called Bounce, and it is a great toe tapping tune.

But Antything Goes! greatest work lies in its masterpiece...Robi-Rob's Boricua Anthem. This is one of the best, all time greatest dance/club songs ever created. Great dance beats, fused with latin rhythms, a powerful spanish rap chanted by the fabulous El General, with some soulful singing provided by one of the singers from Trilogy, and all introduced by a spanish radio announcer...this song makes you think you just stepped into Spanish Harlem, it provides everything but the dance shoes. Filled with spanish horns, and drums, it is the PERFECT mix of Afrolatino rhythms and club culture...and its all in spanish. The heavy bass and spanish chants and commands to dance by El General will drive any dancer on the floor into a trance, and leave you exhausted when the song is over.

This song would have been much bigger if it was released during the Ricky Martin/Jennifer Lopez craze. Which is too bad because it is truely richer than the bubble gum that Martin has released. This song had huge success in the dance music club scene--proving that artists can have crossover without losing authenticity.

Great job on the Boricua (Puerto Rican) Anthem.

The album has another few decent tunes, but this album is a must buy--if only to get the Boricua Anthem with its spanish radio announcer introduction. If you like dance music, rush and buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, June 27, 2004

This review is from: Anything Goes (Audio CD)
This is a great CD! I bought this because I like Martha Wash whose featured on tracks "Bounce To The Beat, "Takin' Over (Feel The Groove)," "Gonna Love You Over," and "Do You Wanna Get Funky" which are my favorite tracks off the album. Zelma is a good singer too but Martha's far better. The album is a mixture of music styles: R&B, Rap, Reggae, Hip Hop, and Latin/Spanish. The interludes are a bit silly. Only tracks I didn't like are "Robi-Rob's Boriqua Anthem," and "Hip Hop Express" (which is way too long!) It says 20 tracks but most are just interludes, being 11 songs and 1 very long track "Hip Hop Express" lasting about 12 mins! and with 8 Interludes. A Good CD and fun to listen to or bring to a party.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have dance album!, April 24, 2003

Out of the very few albums that c+c produced, this is by far the strongest one overall. While "Gonna Make You Sweat" had some killer tunes, it was not consistently engaging. "Anything Goes!", on the other hand, is funky and very musically interesting throughout.

It is best to spin the whole thing in one sitting, but if I had to pick a few favorites, I would say the three tunes right in the middle (Take a Toke, Just Wanna Chill, and All Damn Night) are strong choices.
