This is the fourth cast recording I have of this show -- and by far the best! I am a Cole Porter fan and this is one of his very best. Both words and music can be summarized by a song from the show -- "You're the Tops." I also have the Ethel Merman recording -- Sutton Foster is great, but can't top Merman. But due to modern technology, this album tops the others both due to the quality of the sound, and because more of the score is on it.

While this recording does not come close to recreating the excitement of seeing Anything Goes in person, like the majority of cast recordings, it certainly is a joy to listen to. Sutton Foster shines as always. I think the real discovery is Colin Donnell as Billy, his vocals are silky smooth. The musicians also did an amazing job, the trumpets and clarinets in Blow Gabriel Blow are to die for. Its great to have the included dance breaks, however the tap break in Anything Goes is disappointed. Although that is probably more because nothing can compare to seeing it.
Its a great CD. Whether you think Sutton is completely miscast or not, you will enjoy the Cole Porter score.

It's incredible to me to think this musical was written and conceived in the 1930's! The music feels fresh and has a modern touch the sound. The highlight of this recording is most definably the lovely and musically powerful Sutton Foster and the adorably sweet Laura Osnes and to have Joel Grey as counterpoint to the female bombshell leads creates Broadway magic. Also setting this particular cast album from the many revival album is the exhilarating dance arrangements and colorful orchestrations. Take note producers! This is how you revive a classic musical!

I already owned the 1987 RCA Victor Anything Goes (The New Broadway Cast Recording) with Patti LuPone, as well as the 1956 movie with Mitzi Gaynor, Bing Crosby, and Donald O'Connor. I had heard positive reviews of the latest Broadway revival with Sutton Foster of Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Original Broadway Cast) fame, so I purchased this CD.

There is not much difference, content-wise, between the 1987 and 2011 versions of this show. The former CD has 18 tracks, the new one, 19. The differences are as follows: The "Prelude" from 1987 was renamed the "Overture" for 2011; "Easy to Love" and its reprise are a single track on the older version, but separate tracks on the new one; the songs titled "I Want to Row On the Crew" and "Sailor's Chantey" in 1987 are a single track on that CD, are retitled "The Crew Song" and "There'll Always Be A Lady Fair" for 2011, and are separate tracks on the new CD. The 1987 CD has the "Entr'Acte" (the second-half overture), but the new one does not. The 1987 finale featured a medley of "I Get A Kick Out of You" and the title song; in 2011, "Kick" has been replaced by "It's De-Lovely" and is listed as simply "Finale."

The one tap number in the show is the title track. Patti LuPone, who is not normally a dancer, does a short tap solo, which Sutton Foster, who is a dancer by trade, does not do on this CD, though she may do it on stage.

I have heard a lot of recordings of the "Anything Goes" score. All have been terrific, thanks to Porter's great score. This latest recording has all the necessary elements, including tap dancing, and the best rendition of "It's DeLovely" I have ever heard. I do miss not having a lyric booklet, though there is an address where one can send for it, which, though inconvenient, is better than nothing. Great to listen to, though.

Saw the show when I was in New York and loved it. Now every time I listen to the CD it is like reliving the experience. Great CD

Saw the show in May and there was no recording yet. Very disappointing but thank heavens they decided to cut the recording. Sutton Foster is awesome and that's from someone who remembers Ethel Merman. I'll take Sutton anytime. She can sing! She can dance! She can act! A triple threat and needless to say Merman could "blow" but Sutton can sing. It's a joy listening to her interpret Porter's lyrics. One only can imagine what Cole would have written for Sutton's pipes. Clear, consise, sexy and full of energy.
Going to see her again in October.

This is a must cd for any Broadway collection. Sutton Foster is simply amazing. Her voice is flawless in Anything Goes.
