Bailey Russell and Austin Travers

They can’t get along with each other, but they can’t get along without each other. Bailey likes to win whether in the courtroom or on the 10K race track. So does Austin. When the two meet, sparks fly in all directions.

Bailey Russell’s life is pretty much perfect. She has a dog, a condo, and she’s on the fast track to becoming a partner in the small law firm where she works. Then Austin Travers shows up with his electric blue eyes and electric touch. He beats her in a 10K race, almost overtakes her in an impromptu swim meet, and cooks a delicious meal while her cheesecake tastes like greasy cardboard. However, she takes him down in the courtroom and in a game of chess. The score is close to even. Then she learns he wants to change her law firm, merge it with a bigger one, disrupt Bailey’s life.

To her chagrin, Bailey finds herself attracted to the annoying man, but she remembers only too well the painful days of being a skinny, awkward adolescent, the butt of jokes about red hair and freckles and brainy women. Men like Austin Travers reserved their interest for beautiful women with soft voices and bust line measurements that exceeded their IQs.

Austin soon realizes that Bailey is the most frustrating woman he’s ever met, a tiger, a force to be reckoned with. She makes him crazy, but all other women are pale ghosts beside her. She makes him feel vital and alive. If only he can figure out how to be around her for five minutes without wanting to strangle her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading! March 18, 2013
By Ann M
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was a little hesitant on this because it seems like it was self-published (I apologize if it isn't) and a lot of those, especially in the romance genre, either aren't very good or have so many embarrassing grammatical errors they are hard to read. This book is NOT like that at all. It is very well written. The characters are well thought out and interesting. The plot is a good take on the battle of the sexes and it really works with the story. It's not quite as funny as the subtitle would lead you to believe, but that doesn't take away from the book at all. There is a nice amount of heat between the main characters. The story flows well and it is a quick read. My only complaint is the ending. Not the action at the end, just the way everything wraps up. I know the genre so I was expecting a happy ending but (without trying to give anything away), I personally just felt it was a little too much. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Definitely worth the read if you like this genre. It's nice to see an intelligent heroine maintain her mind in a romantic story and not become a complete damsel-in-distress as soon as the love interest shows up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good & Funny March 18, 2013
By Natasha

The main characters in this story are all great for different reasons, if also a little annoying...but who isn't? Paula and Gordon are just overly optimistic and Bailey & Austin are entirely too competitive for their own good, which of course leads to all of their misunderstandings. Paula & Gordon are a perfect balance to these two high-strung characters, which takes the abrasive edge off them and makes them more human. The elements were all there, although I do wish more had been done at the end. Definitely a quick and funny read, worth the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really liked. Well done for what it was. March 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
4 stars... Subject matter was handled deftly. Without Spoilers I will say, conflict is there BEYOND the overly competitive nature of Heroine and Hero, (overdone, but if consider it was used to battle attraction, it was tolerable because it didn't last) Read on if you get annoyed, it's worth it. The distraction of Gordon and Paula worked beautifully into Bailey and Austin's story line. I ENJOYED THIS STORY. It is Better than serial Formula Romance but IS a serial romance. I was pleased how problems were resolved without dragging out - remember, it is a Formual romance. Once again, absolutely loved the ease between characters. WELL DONE! Can't imagine a serial Romance reader NOT liking this story, especially if they FINISH IT. It wasn't as much FUN as I thought it would be. Not really a laugh out loud. More the easy, natural way the characters interacted, so I get why blurb claimed 'fun'. It felt finished, felt complete. This story has it all for a quick, entertaining BETTER than formula. Would have given 5 stars if not for snapping and annoying anger when HERO AND HEROINE MET - why do writers do that without previous conflict. Very immature.
I AM GOING TO LOOK FOR MORE FROM THIS WRITER, I'm really pleased I found this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Silly March 3, 2014

This was ok as far as romances go but the characters didn't have much depth. I like the humorous mysteries by this authoress better than this tiny romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect read for an evening on the couch April 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Normally I'm not a huge fan of the romance genre, but this book won me over very quickly!

With a light story and a good amount of humor this was a wonderfully pleasant and fast read. I had barely settled onto the couch before I caught myself being unable to set my Kindle down. Before long I had made it through the entire book.

This was my second book I've purchased from this author and I will certainly be downloading more!

5.0 out of 5 stars She's Baaaaaaaaaaaaack August 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sally is back and writing as good as ever. Most of her books are very light reads and just kinds I need when going through a bad physical time. Those times are when I can't move much and realty don't want to watch TV, but need to get my mind off of my troubles. I also like to take my Kindle and read very light while waiting for doctor appointments and this kind of story picks me up and helps make me feel better. Sally has a way of putting some comedy no matter what she is writing. I have never read anything by her I haven't liked. I'm so glad she is back! I gave the story 5 stars because this one didn't disappoint at all. Romance, humor, etc., it has it all.

More About the Author

I grew up in a small rural town in Oklahoma where our favorite entertainment on summer evenings was to sit outside under the stars and tell stories. When I went to bed at night, instead of a lullaby, I got a story. That could be due to the fact that everybody in my family has a singing voice like a bullfrog with laryngitis, but they sure could tell stories--ghost stories, funny stories, happy stories, scary stories.

For as long as I can remember I've been a storyteller. Thank goodness for computers so I can write down my stories. It's hard to make listeners sit still for the length of a book! Like my family's tales, my stories are funny, scary, dramatic, romantic, paranormal, magic.

Besides writing, my interests are reading, eating chocolate and riding my Harley.

Currently I have written four Death by Chocolate mysteries: Death by Chocolate; Murder, Lies and Chocolate; The Great Chocolate Scam; and Chocolate Mousse Attack as well as two Charley's Ghost mysteries: The Ex Who Wouldn't Die and The Ex Who Glowed in the Dark. More in each series will be released as soon as I can copy them from my brain to the computer!

I have sold fifteen romance novels ranging from comedy to dark suspense under the names Sally Carleen, Sally Steward and Sara Garrett. For these novels, I won several awards including National Readers' Choice, Romantic Times Best Silhouette Romance and two Rita finalist slots. Most of the Silhouettes are available as e-books, and I have e-pubbed six of the out-of-print single titles.

Contact information is available on my website. I love to talk to readers! Okay, I just plain love to talk!
