Biography

Lynyrd Skynyrd has epitomized triumph over tragedy as well as any band in music history. In the aftermath of the 1977 plane crash that interrupted its career, guitarists Gary Rossington and Allen Collins provided a lifeline to bridge their pain until the surviving members could regroup 10 years later.

The passing of singer-songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, backup singer Cassie… Read more in Amazon's Rossington Collins Band Store

Editorial Reviews

Both of the LPs released by this post-Lynyrd Skynyrd Southern rock outfit together on one CD, 1980's 'Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere' & 1982's 'This Is The Way'. Each was originally released on MCA. The group featured Skynyrd guitarists Gary Rossington & Allen Collins, plus female vocalist Dale Krantz. 19 tracks, including 'Don't Misunderstand Me' & 'Don't Stop Me Now'. All tracks are digitally remastered from the original master tapes. Also features faithfully restored artwork (i.e. the original cover art of both records), plus additional sleeve notes. 1999 release.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth The Wait, April 25, 2000
By
lastofthewild1s (Blue Springs, MO. United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
I waited for a long time to find RCB's second offering, "This Is The Way" on CD. It has been out of print on CD for a few years now and this package has definitely been the reward for my wait. "Anytime,Anyplace,Anywhere" was a great first album for the Skynyrd survivors. It marked the beginning of the most successful of all the post Skynyrd bands. But success isn't all we're talking about here. Rock N' Roll is the main course here and naturally RCB serves it up "southern fried." From the lead off cut "Prime Time" to the last song "Sometimes You Can Put It Out," this album is diverse in its content. You've got straight ahead rockers like "Don't Misunderstand Me" and "Opportunity" (which, by the way, was featured in an early 80's movie that starred Rutger Hauer) that prove that a female vocalist did not tame those hellraisers from Jacksonville. And as you would expect, you've got Southern rockers like "Winner's And Losers," and "Sometimes You Can Put It Out." One very interesting element were bluesy ballads like "Three Times As Bad." A very solid first album, but their best was yet to come. "This Is The Way," their second and final album was spectacular. Songs like "Gotta Get It Straight," "Gonna Miss It When It's Gone," and "Seems Like Every Day" all kicked with a ferocity that the band previously hadn't demonstrated on album. Another great element added to this album was the fact that Barry Harwood sang three of the album's ten tracks. Included are the tail kicking "Fancy Ideas," and the acoustic stand out "I'm Free Today." Also included was a beautiful ballad titled "Tashauna" that chronicled the loss of loved ones in and near the band. This ten song joy ride comes to an end with the kicking rocker "Means Nothing To You," a song chock full of cool guitar fills and some great slide guitar work. This album sold me on RCB. If you liked their first album, you'll love this one.

This import package is great! It has every track from both albums all digitally remastered. Also to its credit are the faithfully reproduced artwork and brand new liner notes. This collection is all you'll ever need to complete your RCB collection. In fact, if you don't have it, your collection is still incomplete. No kidding. I don't work for the record label and I'm not an ex-band member. I just appreciate great music and great packaging of a CD. (Sometimes older releases that are on CD are very poorly packaged.) I believe that you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars real street survivors!, January 10, 2000
By
ben hubar (vancouver, wa. [u.s.a.]) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
lynyrd skynyrd with a girl singer! no way! that was my first reaction when i found out about this albums release. no way, it just wouldn't work! what happened to gregg allman being the new front man? [true]. then i heard the first cut. i was floored. the opening track PRIME TIME hits you right between the eyes. girl next door vocalist, DALE KRANTZ [now rossington], really delivers the goods. from the fm hit DON'T MISUNDERSTAND ME, to the gut wrentching, janis like, THREE TIMES AS BAD, this album/cd flat cooks. it pickes up right where skynyrds STREET SURVIVORS left off, thanks to the brilliant guitar duo of allen collins and gary rossington, joined by long time pal barry harwood. anyone who thought they may have lost something after the tragic plane crash suffered by lynyrd skynyrd in 1977, need only listen to the ending track SOMETIMES YOU CAN PUT IT OUT, an all out, officer just right me the ticket, boogie down the highway rocker that you would expect from these mighty kings of southern rock! ANYTIME, ANYPLACE, ANYWHERE, is a must for any lynyrd skynyrd fan as well as all fans of real rock-n-roll. as the cover portrays, this album is truelly a phoenix, risen from the ashes!

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good/Better than Skynyrd?!, August 23, 2004
By
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
Yes, that's what I said. It's as good, maybe better. Dale Krantz (Rossington), has the pipes that were taking the rock world by storm, the next "Janis Joplin", many reporters exlaimed! Well, Allen's wife died during childbirth, and thus ended this band in yet another tragedy... But, don't miss these two great albums! They show Rossington and Collins at their finest! Workin hard! And, Dale Krantz has all the gritz required to be "front Woman". It's just a shame, that the new Skynyrd doesn't cover any of these tunes in concert, and just has Dale, as a backup singer....

These are classic, must haves for any southern rocker!
