5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth The Wait
I waited for a long time to find RCB's second offering, "This Is The Way" on CD. It has been out of print on CD for a few years now and this package has definitely been the reward for my wait. "Anytime,Anyplace,Anywhere" was a great first album for the Skynyrd survivors. It marked the beginning of the most successful of all the post Skynyrd bands...

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not your fathers Lynyrd Skynyrd
I purchased this CD because I am a big Skynyrd fan. Thinking that a big part of LZ (Collins and Rossington) were here I took the chance (having not neard their stuff). Well, it ain't Skynyrd; more like CCR. Those unique, imaginative and powerful guitar licks we got used to with LZ just aren't there. And of course we don't have that southern soul voice of Ronnie's...

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Worth The Wait, April 25, 2000

I waited for a long time to find RCB's second offering, "This Is The Way" on CD. It has been out of print on CD for a few years now and this package has definitely been the reward for my wait. "Anytime,Anyplace,Anywhere" was a great first album for the Skynyrd survivors. It marked the beginning of the most successful of all the post Skynyrd bands. But success isn't all we're talking about here. Rock N' Roll is the main course here and naturally RCB serves it up "southern fried." From the lead off cut "Prime Time" to the last song "Sometimes You Can Put It Out," this album is diverse in its content. You've got straight ahead rockers like "Don't Misunderstand Me" and "Opportunity" (which, by the way, was featured in an early 80's movie that starred Rutger Hauer) that prove that a female vocalist did not tame those hellraisers from Jacksonville. And as you would expect, you've got Southern rockers like "Winner's And Losers," and "Sometimes You Can Put It Out." One very interesting element were bluesy ballads like "Three Times As Bad." A very solid first album, but their best was yet to come. "This Is The Way," their second and final album was spectacular. Songs like "Gotta Get It Straight," "Gonna Miss It When It's Gone," and "Seems Like Every Day" all kicked with a ferocity that the band previously hadn't demonstrated on album. Another great element added to this album was the fact that Barry Harwood sang three of the album's ten tracks. Included are the tail kicking "Fancy Ideas," and the acoustic stand out "I'm Free Today." Also included was a beautiful ballad titled "Tashauna" that chronicled the loss of loved ones in and near the band. This ten song joy ride comes to an end with the kicking rocker "Means Nothing To You," a song chock full of cool guitar fills and some great slide guitar work. This album sold me on RCB. If you liked their first album, you'll love this one.

This import package is great! It has every track from both albums all digitally remastered. Also to its credit are the faithfully reproduced artwork and brand new liner notes. This collection is all you'll ever need to complete your RCB collection. In fact, if you don't have it, your collection is still incomplete. No kidding. I don't work for the record label and I'm not an ex-band member. I just appreciate great music and great packaging of a CD. (Sometimes older releases that are on CD are very poorly packaged.) I believe that you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars real street survivors!, January 10, 2000

lynyrd skynyrd with a girl singer! no way! that was my first reaction when i found out about this albums release. no way, it just wouldn't work! what happened to gregg allman being the new front man? [true]. then i heard the first cut. i was floored. the opening track PRIME TIME hits you right between the eyes. girl next door vocalist, DALE KRANTZ [now rossington], really delivers the goods. from the fm hit DON'T MISUNDERSTAND ME, to the gut wrentching, janis like, THREE TIMES AS BAD, this album/cd flat cooks. it pickes up right where skynyrds STREET SURVIVORS left off, thanks to the brilliant guitar duo of allen collins and gary rossington, joined by long time pal barry harwood. anyone who thought they may have lost something after the tragic plane crash suffered by lynyrd skynyrd in 1977, need only listen to the ending track SOMETIMES YOU CAN PUT IT OUT, an all out, officer just right me the ticket, boogie down the highway rocker that you would expect from these mighty kings of southern rock! ANYTIME, ANYPLACE, ANYWHERE, is a must for any lynyrd skynyrd fan as well as all fans of real rock-n-roll. as the cover portrays, this album is truelly a phoenix, risen from the ashes!

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good/Better than Skynyrd?!, August 23, 2004
By
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
Yes, that's what I said. It's as good, maybe better. Dale Krantz (Rossington), has the pipes that were taking the rock world by storm, the next "Janis Joplin", many reporters exlaimed! Well, Allen's wife died during childbirth, and thus ended this band in yet another tragedy... But, don't miss these two great albums! They show Rossington and Collins at their finest! Workin hard! And, Dale Krantz has all the gritz required to be "front Woman". It's just a shame, that the new Skynyrd doesn't cover any of these tunes in concert, and just has Dale, as a backup singer....
These are classic, must haves for any southern rocker!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great southern rock, May 28, 2003
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
Much has been said about this group and this recording. So while it might seem odd, I only wish to note that "Pine Box" has always been a personal favorite; not just because of the sheer novelty that a southern rock group would record an "a capella" track but also because the track is so well crafted musically, harmonically and lyrically. Indeed the album (and especially this track) is well recorded with excellent soundstage and depth of field. It was so unexpected to hear this track from this band...

5.0 out of 5 stars What a find, May 31, 2000

This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
I had all but given up on finding "This is the Way". I was very familiar with "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere", but only heard a few selections from RCB's Second Helping. I kicked myself for never tracking this one down before it got out of print. This would be my choice for the proverbial "if you were stranded on an island..." Fine guitar, fine vocals, and let's not forget Billy Powell, inventor of the 128th note triplet. G-Man would be proud. Now I know what to get all my friends for Christmas. RMFB

5.0 out of 5 stars Rossington Collins Band 2 Disc CD = "The Re-Birth" of Southern Rock Featuring Excellent Guitar Play!!!!!!!!, June 18, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
Outstanding!!!! These are the surviving members of Lynyrd Skynyrd (after the plane crash except for Artimus Plye), "picking up the pieces" and resurrecting Southern Rock!!!!

These albums were originally released around 1979, and 1980. Allen Collins died in 1990.

The line-up on these 2 albums, includes the 2 surviving, outstanding guitar players Gary Rossington, and Allen Collins, plus a new guitarist Barry Harwood. You get Gary's wife Dale Krantz on lead vocals, Billy Powell on keyboards, Leon Wilkeson on bass guitar & Derek Hess on drums. The music is great oustanding Guitar-Oriented Southern Rock. Most of the songs were written by Krantz, Rossington & Collins.

Disc One Consists of the following:
Album Title: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere:
1.Prime Time
2.Three Times as Bad
3.Don't Misunderstand Me
4.One Good Man
5.Opportunity
6.Getaway
7.Winners & Losers
8.Misery Loves Company
9.Sometimes You can put it Out

Disc Two:
Album title: This is the Way:
1.Gotta get it Straight
2.Tashauna (A Tribute to the late/great Ronnie Van Zant)
3.Gonna Miss it When It's Gone
4.Pine Box
5.Fancy Ideas
6.Don't Stop Me Now
7.Seems Like Every Day
8.I'm Free today
9.Next Phone Call
10.Means Nothing to You

These are 2 of the the best Southern Rock albums out there. This was the first "continuation" of Lynyrd Skynyrd after the plane-crash of October 20, 1977. Gary and Allen are still awesome on their guitars, plus you get Barry as a third guitarist to continue the awesome "3 guitar army" that Skynyrd was noted for. Plus Dale Krantz, who was a back-up singer for .38 Speical sings the lead vocals, and she is outstanding!!! This is a great Double Album 2 Disc CD, and I highly recommend it very much!!! Thanks!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Anytime Anyplace Anywhere..That is about where I found them., April 20, 2000

Me and a buddy stummbled upon this band in Dayton Beach in the very early years. We are BIG Southern Rock fans and we heard Garry Rossingtion was going to be a this little hall in a hotel in Daytona, we we had to go. The Show was crude, no big lights, no roddies, very informal, heck they even help setup the equipment. Well for about 300 to 500 Southern Rock fans it was great. Even though it was a small room the sound was great and boy could she sing! As soon as we found the LP we bought it! The recording was very good but should not be suprising because I believe it was on a MCA label. This is a must for Southern Rock Fans with hard hitting tracks and ballads. "GETAWAY" has to be my favorite but "Sometimes You Can Put it Out" is a close second. The vinyl is about worn out, can not wait for the CD !

5.0 out of 5 stars WELL WORTH EVERY DOLLAR!!!, April 15, 2009
This review is from: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere/This Is The Way (Audio CD)
This is one of the best music compilations since Lynyrd Skynyrd. These musicians are truly unforgettable, and the addition of Dale Krantz vocals adds another dimension in musical genius, if you loved Lynyrd Skynyrd, you will love this album as well. The track "Don't Misunderstand Me" is an all time great, this is truly awesome music. Lyrical masterpiece. Guitar work is spectacular as per usual. A classic to own and to love :)
