The King of Love!,
This review is from: Anytime (Audio CD)
I think those that were disappointed by this c.d. should really give it a chance. Yes, he may have taken the beats from another song, but come on his voice alone makes the c.d. worth the money! No one is perfect and I haven't seen a male R&B male compare to Mr. McKnight yet (him and R. Kelly). Even R. Kelly has taken some beats and made it sound wonders! I loved this c.d. not only because of the love ballads, but because Mr. Knight tried something different. He not only got with Mase on this album, but he went back with a wonderful spritual called When The Chariots Come that will bring you to tears ( I know it did for me). When your an artists you can't just stick to one thing all the time, like humans (which he is, lets not forget)can't stick to the same t.v. show or cereal everyday. We're forgetting everyone isn't perfect and that's why they call it being different, changing the pace, or coloring outside the lines. I would recommend this c.d. to all you Brian McKnight fans and those who haven't heard one of his c.d's, because you won't be let down!

I simply love Brian McKnight's music. He keeps getting better and better. I played this CD so much that I got one for work and one for home. He's mastered the ballad. His voice is so smooth, and so mellow. This album can be listened to whether you're at your highest high or lowest low--it's a CD for all moods. I even found myself dancing to the uptempo grooves. It's so hard to pick out a favorite song on this album, but near the top are "The Only One for Me", "Til I Get Over You" and "Anytime".

Stick with ballads,

I can't honestly stand by this album; the fast songs are what hurt him, like "Hold Me", which grooves over a 2Pac sample and "You Should Be Mine" with Mase. That and cliched lyrics like "I'm down on my knees/Begging you please" in "Show Me the Way Back to Your Heart". But other ballads like the title track (which sounds a little like Meshell's 1993 "Outside Your Door"), "Till I Get Over You", and "The Only One for Me" still make this album a keeper. But for his best work, check out his self-titled album and Back at One.

Excellent Album!,

Brian McKnight's smooth vocals, melodickeyboard-based tunes and honest lyrics help define a style of R&B that has been scarce in the '90s. On his third set, McKnight continues to touch the heart with his soulful grooves and heartfelt ballads. Although a guest appearance from Mase on "You Should Be Mine (Don't Waste Your Time)" makes for a great pop hit, McKnight's true musical talent and vocal ability replace R&B's usual connection with hip-hop on ANYTIME. Songs like "Could" and "Anytime" use the slow love song formula while "Everytime We Say Goodbye" and "You Got The Bomb" remind listeners what smooth up-tempo R&B should sound like.

Smooth, calm & totally listenable,

I got this album after hearing only a couple of tracks from a friend's copy, and I'm glad I did. No two songs are similar- each track has a style all its own. 'Anytime' is just full of emotion- the lyrics describe how things used to be in a relationship and you can relate to them easily. 'You should be mine' just stayed in my head for weeks and 'When the Chariot Comes' is music that makes you cry. Brian's voice is very distinctive- no doubt a positive quality which should have helped to get him the recognition he deserves. It's really such a shame that few people this side of the atlantic have heard of him. If you like R&B, you cannot dislike this, I'm sure of it. I'm now going to get his 1999 release, 'Back at One' after hearing just a few samples from it.

Well, never thought i would say this...,

... but i love this album. I like almost the TOTAL opposite kind of music, melodic death metal (a la In Flames, Soilwork, and At The Gates) as well as neoclassical guitar (Becker, Malmsteen, Bellas) but this cd hit me like a ton of bricks. I've met Brian, he records in my dad's studio, and he's got to be the coolest guy i've ever met. His voice is so smooth and i have yet to find someone whom i consider have a better voice OR more talented. I guess what i'm trying to say is McKnight is a genius and even us melodic death metal and rippin' guitar guys can recognize talent like this. I recommend this to anyone open-minded. No matter what kind of music you like, this is good stuff. (ps check out Neil Zaza... best guitar player ever, music is like the McKnight of the guitar world. Onle listen to his live versions of "Im Alright" and the intro and you'll be glad you took my word for it. What have you got to lose? it takes about 5 minutes to get those via napster with a cable modem... open your mind...) Brian Rules!

Brian U GOT IT!,

I adore this CD. It's unbelievable how Brian can interpret exactly the way I feel sometimes and how I felt in my experiences in life. His voice is outstanding and is able to be melancholic and happy, something very few people actually can. The lyrics are honest and you feel that they come straight from the heart. It's not a product of lies and "showing off the sensitive man next door".NO, this is real. That that's what makes me love this music, because u can feel it. It doesn't stay on the surface, it gets under your skin and expresses what's really inside of me in certain times. My personal fave is "Anytime", I like the videoclip, too. Brian doesn't need to play a macho guy who always has to show at the end of a song that he can sing as high and as low. He doesn't need to show a "soul-singer" off, he just IS one. In the contrary to many others who are maybe able to sing very low and very high but they still don't got that something in their voice except the screamy unpleasant tone.

Disapointing,
By Gordon V. (Washington State) - See all my reviews

I had greatly anticipated the release of this album when it came out but i was very disapointed with the outcome. This album is just not live up to his full potential. The title track "Anytime" is good, sure. But all of the fast songs are just weak. He is best when it comes to slow ballads. But he redeems himself with "Back at One".

This CD is really really good. It's my favorite. Brian really has a great voice and the songs just add to it. All of the songs are good, my favorite ones are Anytime and The Only One for Me. I could listen to him all day! This CD is great for R&B lovers or just mustic lovers. I highly recommend getting it.
