4.0 out of 5 stars Leon Is Back!
Leon Redbone is one of my favorites and has provided a soundtrack to some of the most important events in my life. His first three (maybe four) albums are his best, and he will never be able to recapture the magic of these early recordings. But with ANYTIME -- he comes very close. This is his best album in ages. His reading of the Swift Jewel Cowboys' "Little...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sleepytime Out on the Porch With Leon
I like Mr. Redbone but I wish he'd pick up his tempos. He's at his best when he finds songs which lend themselves to his particular jazzy synopation. In this CD, however, he does not do that. Instead he runs the range from subdued to somnambular. It's like listening to Leon play his guitar and sing on a hot summer night, on the front porch, after a big meal, when no...

Leon Redbone is one of my favorites and has provided a soundtrack to some of the most important events in my life. His first three (maybe four) albums are his best, and he will never be able to recapture the magic of these early recordings. But with ANYTIME -- he comes very close. This is his best album in ages. His reading of the Swift Jewel Cowboys' "Little Willie Green" is great -- his final warblings made me laugh out loud. And he does to "Moonlight Bay" what he once did to "Shine On Harvest Moon" -- he takes an impossible corny and tapped-out relic and transforms it into a strange, haunting dream. There are lots of other gems here, and everything comes together. Sigh. How lovely that he made this album -- thank you Leon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Leon Returns, August 21, 2002
By
This review is from: Anytime (Audio CD)
This album is definitely for those who appreciate the classic sounds of Leon Redbone. If you were disappointed in previous recent albums that seemed to depart from the Redbone style of his early years, you will be in for a treat with this album. It sounds more like early Leon Redbone than the early albums did! A definite "thumbs up" for this one is in order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ear Candy!, June 18, 2003

O Gawd! My happy aentenna vibrated like a tuning fork when the first notes of "Anytime" burst from my speakers! Delicious, delightful, decadently different! I have other offerings from The Bone, but this cd is all sweets, all the way through. Redbone sets moods, paints vingettes with his music here. The title track "Anytime" is nostalgic and sexy somehow. "Your Feets Too Big" is sheer fun, sing it with your kids. Slow dance with your sweety in a candlelit room to "Moonlight Bay". This is a collection of charming, offbeat, amusing and gentle music for young and old. Fingers and toes will tap, shoulders will swivel, heads will nod, and you will find yourself singing along with the simple tunes involuntarily. Why fight it? Enjoy!

Finally Leon Redbone has released a great CD of music from beginning to end. This is a return to form that was last heard back in 1992 with "Up a lazy river".
My hats off to Mr. Redbone for coming up with another set of great listening that will last for years to come!

This CD is absolutely wonderful! Leon is still the king of inciteful, soul-filled renditions of old songs and one of the best creators of new songs. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, ANYTIME!

We've been Leon Redbone fans ever since hearing him (many years ago) when he was the opening act to a Tom Waits' concert---now there's a dichotomy. In fact, that's a good comparison; if you're familiar with Tom Waits' style, just think opposite. For you novices, Leon Rebone (with his rich baritone voice) sings the old standards with guitar, banjo, tuba, and sometimes he even whistles. A sampling from "Any Time" include: "Any Time", "Moonlight Bay", "All I Do Is Dream of You", "Ain't Gonna Give You None of My Jelly Roll", etc. If you're a L.R. fan, "Any Time" is typical Redbone--nuff said. For the rest of you, this is "easy listening"---sometimes even "foot tapping" music.

5.0 out of 5 stars The reclusive one triumphs again!, March 25, 2009
This review is from: Anytime (Reis) (Audio CD)
I've been a Leon Redbone fan for quite a while and own almost his entire catalog.

I put "Anytime" on peer with "Sugar." The selections Leon performs are quite listenable. As with other offerings, Mr. Redbone surrounds himself with very accomplished musicians and the results are unequivocally terrific.

I'd highly recommend "Anytime" - anytime.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leon Redbone "Any Time", August 9, 2007
This review is from: Anytime (Audio CD)
I am about to buy this C D for the second time because it is such a favourite with anyone who hears it. I have given it 4 stars out of 5 because there were a couple of tracks that I wasn't mad about. However, whenever "Any Time" starts up, its an immediate "feel good" day.

5.0 out of 5 stars SWEET SWEET JAZZ, August 15, 2004

No one in music today sings quite like this. Leon Redbone evokes one of the most beautiful eras of American musical expression: DIXIELAND JAZZ and BLUES VOCALS. His voice is like a smooth old malt scotch: IT GOES DOWN EASY. This is sweet, sweet jazz music. Also be sure to get UP A LAZY RIVER. Superb music from a superlative vocal stylist. It's hard to believe more people aren't into this man. Enjoy it now, before this kind of music is gone for good. GIMME SOME MORE OF THAT SMOOTH OL' ORLEANS JAZZ LEON!! I LOVE IT!!

I'm hiring this guy to play my wedding.
