This book is among the crème de la crème of all rock books and the product of sensational original research. 3.0 out of 5 stars Who's Missing
As a Who fanatic who has seen The Who 15 times in concert, Pete Townshend solo 4 times, and John Entwistle once since 1982, I know the history of the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world didn't stop with the death of Keith Moon. Anyone who saw the Concert For New York in 2001 during which The Who were the best band to perform could see that. A quarter of a century...

This review is from: Anyway Anyhow Anywhere: The Complete Chronicle of THE WHO 1958-1978 (Hardcover)
This book is among the crème de la crème of all rock books and the product of sensational original research. The work that Neill and Kent must have put in to uncover all this information and these breathtaking illustrations, many of them never seen before, is simply awesome to consider. The result is no mere list but an absorbing, factually spot-on history, a living, breathing, driving account of the lives of four fascinating and highly original young men. Entwistle, Daltrey, Townshend and Moonie - this is/was your lives. (I heard the authors met with Entwistle and presented him their book just a couple of days before the guitarist died. He returned the compliment by enjoying a long look through the book and signing them a generous message in one of their copies.) This book is not cheap to buy but it is simply packed with love and devotion. Treat yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book shows what The Who was all about!, September 18, 2002

This review is from: Anyway Anyhow Anywhere: The Complete Chronicle of THE WHO 1958-1978 (Hardcover)
This book beautifully shows the rise, the highlights and ultimately the fall (with Keith Moon's death)of the very best band ever!
Both in words and vision it follows the band, with their payed concerts as a guide-line.
A lot of the images in it are shown for the very first time, which makes it a unique document in itself.
As said by the authors, The Who were not as televised, interviewed, and exposed in a way for example The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were in those early days.
Which makes this book a great effort!
Ofcourse this is must-read for Who-fans, but it is also a great
document for anyone who is interested in music-history, or the social movements seen in Britain in the sixties and seventies.
Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Coffee table Who, March 24, 2008
By
PHILIP S WOLF (SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA. USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
As an happy owner of many, many books about The Who and Townshend, Moon, Entwistle and Daltrey, this coffee table style hardbound edition is one of the better things out there available for purchase.

This book, serves as an timeline of all things: "Who" from 1958-1978 {When Keith passed away, it has never really been The Who, since that Time onwards.} At 304 pages, this day-by-day diary of the band, is very good, and the information included herein will give lot's of insight for new fans of this great group. But, for us: 'ol-timers', the wealth of the contents of: "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhwere", lies in the photos and graphic work that has been included here. Lot's of this material has not been reproduced outside of England since the sixties and seventies, and even all you hard-core, Who fanatics out there, HAVE NOT seen a lot of these wonderful photo's before.

Again, there are plenty of books about: The Who and it's members on the shelves, and you should shop around to see which one is for you. But, if I were to rate any Who book as perfect for your living room coffee table, this one along with: "The Who~Maximum R&B" by Richard Barnes, would indeed fill that purpose just fine.

This is a big, fun, meaty. beaty & bouncy, visual history of The Who.
Four Stars !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Rock Book, January 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Anyway Anyhow Anywhere: The Complete Chronicle of THE WHO 1958-1978 (Hardcover)
I thouroughly enjoy looking through this detailed day to day story of The Who. I have a similarly styled book on the Stones and this one of The Who is infinitely better. Whenever I have free time I look through this fantastic book and I am utterly amazed at it's thouroughness and, simply put, it is a great delight to read. The writing is superb and interesting and the photographs are of top quality. My compliments go out to the authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only for Collectors, May 8, 2004
This review is from: Anyway Anyhow Anywhere: The Complete Chronicle of THE WHO 1958-1978 (Hardcover)
I would only recomend this book to collectors simply because of the overwhelming amount of trivial information in it. (though being an avid Who fan myself, i loved every word of it...)
However if you are willing to spend the money it is a beautiful book, filled with hundreds of high quality photos of the band and various who-related memerobillia. The information is sorted chronologically(day by day) and includes only the years when Keith played with the Who. The information ranges from day to day events (concerts, appearances) to more behind-the-scenes information, including direct quotes from band members, etc. Do not buy this book expecting any sort of sensationalism, it is very matter of fact and does not delve deeply into the personal lives of the band members.
Despite all that, I thought this book was worth every penny and have greatly enjoyed it. It is a wonderful look at the progression of The Who and their music.

I am a huge fan of the Who, and I wanted a really comprehensive book that was all about the career, and I found it in this. It is an excellent book, and the seller was great, no problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, April 26, 2010
By
DW (chicago, IL) - See all my reviews
Although great pains were taken to ensure the accuracy of the information in Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, one has to question the completeness of a book that only traces The Who's history to Keith Moon's death in 1978. Also, the selective and incomplete discography at the end of the book makes me question the accuracy of the rest of the book.

Some purists may argue that The Who ended with Keith Moon. But, Pete Townshend and Co. still made superior music with Kenny Jones. For me, The Who's story officially ends with their "farewell" It's Hard Tour. I would have liked to see the book continue until 1982.

Still, there's no other book that has as much information on release dates, recording dates, and concert dates in one package. The lead in pages for each year read like a story and serve as an overview of the detail in each chapter. And the pictures are great and paint a picture of what was a very busy band.

Other good Who books include The Who Maximum R&B by Richard Barnes and The Who Concert File by Joe McMichael and 'Irish' Jack Lyons.

I give this a five star review except for one thing. there had been no
forclosure that on the back of the book there are two small rips in the back cover
and approx. 20 to 30 pages of texts. They would not have stopped me from
buying the book, but I would of liked to have known abots the situation prior
to getting the book. There is no way they could not have noticed it. I decided
not to do anything about it because being handicaped with mobility issues I did not
want to go about returning the book or see if there was another one availabile.
These things I am sure would have been taken care of by the seller.
The book is worth getting it contains tons of picture and interesting facks aside
from the main story of the who
