Emily Slonina's `Anywhere, Anytime, Any Body Yoga' provides an easy entrée for non-traditional students to the physical and mental benefits of Yoga.

Slonina's book provides simple-to-follow illustrated instructions for basic Yoga poses. Each pose is shown in its conventional Hatha Yoga form and is also modified for those who are physically challenged. The benefits of each pose are also explained. And providing further inspiration, the models are real people of various ages and physical abilities.

It is sometimes daunting for the non-traditional athlete to venture to the gym or Yoga studio for the first time. This is a great first step for such students - by following Slonina's easy-to-understand directions, the student can both learn to adapt Yoga poses to their own needs and also experience the benefits of a Yoga program.

`Anywhere, Anytime, Any Body Yoga' opens the door to the practice of Yoga for many who can truly benefit, but who may be unable to find a suitable program or be reticent about its public practice. And once that door is opened, who knows how far they can venture?

Five stars: `Anywhere, Anytime, Any Body Yoga' should be of interest to older and physically challenged students who want a simple easy-to-follow introduction to Hatha Yoga and to anyone who practices Yoga but who must modify her program to accommodate physical problems.

"I CAN'T DO THAT!", is what I hear on a weekly basis when I suggest to clients they try some yoga for problems they are facing. As a health-care practitioner, I am an enthusiastic promoter of yoga having seen the results it can produce. When people look at their options for beginning yoga, the resources out there can be intimidating. In books, videos and classes they most frequently see difficult postures and people practicing that are younger, thinner, and usually in a spa or studio setting that is very far removed from their day-to-day reality.

Emily Slonina's title says it all! Anywhere, Anytime, Any Body Yoga. Simple photographs in a home or work setting, with different issues and areas of the body addressed. And practices that can be done separately, in the midst of one's day, or done in sequence with others, given what time you have available. Whatever your excuses have been for not moving your body, and avoiding exercises, this book holds good clear, practical information to move you into more comfort and ease.

Whether you need some personal motivation or a resource to encourage friends, relatives and others to get a move on, I find this an excellent resource! After suggesting Emily's book for several months, I have found that people take to it and continue to use it.

Perhaps later, when you are looser and happier and more comfortable within yourself, you may move on to other resources and maybe even a class, but the concepts given in this book can last your lifetime.

This book has been great so far. What struck me the most, from the beginning, were the pictures: the quantity, the symbols attached, and most of all that the people were not young, fit and skinny. I think that's what I've always found intimidating about yoga, because I'm not young, fit or skinny either. I am going to work with this book to conquer yoga, once and for all. Highly recommend to fellow yoga beginners out there. Give it a try!

If you've never practiced yoga because you believe it belongs to the realm of the skinny and flexible, then it's time to change your perspective. While yoga is practiced by skinny men and women who can contort themselves into the oddest of positions, yoga bests benefits the rest of the world...you know, us normal people.

"Anywhere, Anytime, Any Body Yoga" by Emily Slonina shows us all that yoga isn't restricted to those who are already fit, but can be practiced by the overweight, the elderly, and even the wheelchair-bound. Using models that represent every body type, except the ultra-thin, Slonina provides extensive pictures of various poses and their alternates that can be performed sitting or standing, on the floor or in the office chair, alone or even with a grandchild.

The book is divided into different sections relaxation, meditation, of course, the poses. It does lack a deeper dive into some of the mental aspects of practicing yoga, but considering it's size and price, this book is hard to beat, especially when considering the target audience.

If you've always wanted to try yoga and gain the benefits of regular practice, but have felt intimiated by stereotypes, then this is the book for you.

ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANY BODY YOGA is a fine contribution to the world of yoga and a surprise for `any body' who might have thought he/she was too fat, too arthritic, too handicapped, too inflexible or just plain too undisciplined to invert, twist and fold every which way while chanting Om.

The author, prima yogini Emily Slonina, intention is not to impose the standards of a high-level yoga practice but to lighten the practice while maintaining the energetic patterns of traditional poses, such as triangle, warrior and up dog. Her student are models in the book: people who suffer from scoliosis, heart disease, fibromyalgia, obesity and chronic pain. Black & white photographs and Slonina clear instruction show you how to do yoga poses in a wheelchair, while doing housework, in bed, at the office, on a chair as well as when standing near a wall. She includes instruction on breathing and mediation and encourages her readers to experience the present moment, the moment where everything good and sweet happens.

I am a yoga teacher and a writer, I highly recommend this book. It's filled with love and generous expertise. It is never intimidating and will steer you in the right direction. What's the right direction? Start where you are. Start now. Learn the healing moves that have benefited humans for centuries. Go out and buy the book.
