With a decent spreadsheet program, it's possible to set up all sorts of handy programs. There will be a dozen or so steps, and cells can be set up with various types of logical, statistical, or mathematical functions. Then, you put in data within certain cells, and the crucial answer comes out in another.

This turns out to be a decent spreadsheet program. It has all of that. Size limit -- 702 columns, 500 rows. The opening screen is sharply designed, and offers other freebie conversion tools.

I was also able to import a few spreadsheets (CSV format). They looked great. I'll be adding about a dozen more spreadsheets to my Kindle. For how, see the site of the people that wrote this program: nickelbuddy.com

One item I felt the lack of was Sort. Then again, I haven't used Sort in a spreadsheet for awhile, I mainly use formulas in one configuration or another.

This goes into my list of top utility Kindle programs: Notepad, Easy Calculator, Sticky Notes, and Day Planner & Calendar.

Very nice. Handy for all sorts of things. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great new tool with room for future enhancements October 7, 2011

Those of us looking for more productivty tools on the Kindle are finally in luck! There is now a spreadsheet app for the Kindles! It is Anywhere Spreadsheet (A Spreadsheet for Kindle). It definately has it's limits but it's still well worth the price IMO (only $3.99).

A spreadsheet can have up to 702 columns and 500 rows. The following functions are supported when creating formulas:
Logical Functions:
AND(Value1, Value2)
IF(Cond, ValueIfTrue, ValueIfFalse)
OR(Value1, Value2)
Statistical Functions:
AVG(RangeRef0, RangeRef1, ...)
COUNT(RangeRef0, RangeRef1, ...)
MAX(RangeRef0, RangeRef1, ...)
MIN(RangeRef0, RangeRef1, ...)
SUM(RangeRef0, RangeRef1, ...)

Math Functions:
ABS(x), ACOS(x), ASIN(x), ATAN(x), CEIL(x), COS(x), E(), EXP(x), FLOOR(x)
FRAC(x), INT(x), LN(x), LOG(x), PI(), RAND(x), SIN(x), SQRT(x), TAN(x)

Graphing is also supported with one chart at a time being displayed and a max of 6 data series being charted in a single spreadsheet.

It comes with several precanned solutions to common problems such as Sales Price Calculator, Temperature Converter, etc. as well as several templates for things like tracking weight loss, running log, road trip log etc.

It can export and import files in .csv format which are then dragged to and from your PC while plugged in via USB.

I would like to see enhancements such as sorting and better (more extensive) cell formatting tools but hey, this is on a Kindle which makes this tool already pretty amazing! I can't wait to see where they go with this app in future releases.

Like I said, not a full blown spreadsheet like Excel, but it has real potential and gets the job done for many tasks. Not at all bad for being on a non-adroid e-reader! I love my Kindle :)

5.0 out of 5 stars #1 October 10, 2011

In less than an hour my Excel Spreadsheet for a budget was transfered to this program and modified to fit the screen.
The rows are adjustable by width & height.
The entire 10 row width / 32 row height spreadsheet is visable on the screen without scrolling.
I put this program at #1 in my Kindle.

I have been using Anywhere Spreadsheet for Kindle for six (6) weeks.

I use Excel and found Anywhere easy to use once I got over the learning curve. I found it best to create *.xls spreadsheets in Excel, export them as *.csv files and transfer to my Kindle Keyboard.

Anywhere can export its data files as *.cvs files; they can then be imported to Excel for further use. Note: I dislike apps (active content) and am reluctant to use any if their data files cannot be exported to a PC for editing or other use.

I can vouch for their claim of Lightning fast customer support: I had a loosely connected USB cable when I first installed Anywhere and my Kindle Keyboard locked up (my fault). I emailed nickelbuddy and got a fast response.

There are minor details that I feel should be changed, but they are worth lowering its rating. For example "Menu>Insert" which is used to Insert or Delete a Row or Column should be changed to "Menu>Insert Delete".

Anywhere has good "Help" topics. On the NickelBuddy.com web site they should be listed in a printable form, that would have gotten me over the learning curve faster and easier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Anywhere - Suggestions for Future Improvements August 20, 2012
Verified Purchase
Even though the Kindle was not designed to be a productivity tool, I found that having a Spreadsheet app, in addition to the Notebook app, and Calculator app I already had, very nice for quick but not-too-complex on-the-go jobs. I actually use the Anywhere spreadsheet fairly often and find it a practical app to have on the Kindle for small needs. Having said that there are some niggling annoyances with Anywhere that make for even more frustrating productivity bottlenecks.

Here is my wish list in order of priority:
1) Better navigation - One finds oneself using the "goto (cell)" function alot on large spreadsheets because one cannot navigate as easily any other way. To be fair though I admit the 5-way toggle held down does move fairly quickly without some of the sticking problems of the EFRAC spreadsheet for Kindle, but why not allow the "page down" or "page up" buttons to move up or down a full-screen page at a time similar to the EFRAC spreadsheet? Or use alt+"5-way toggle" to move full-screen pages at a time, right, left, up, and down? Or when editing to toggle to the beginning and end of the cell's contents in one step?
2) Insert/delete cells - while Anywhere allows one to insert/delete rows and columns, I have not found anyway to simply select a cell or cells and then insert/delete one or more selected cells. The lack of this feature makes it more difficult to edit spreadsheets, especially larger ones.
3) Spreadsheet size - On one recent spreadsheet I eventually ran out of rows to work with on the 500 row x 702 column limit (though interestingly the data was retained when I inserted rows even if I could not edit beyond 500 rows).

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems to work OK
Not fantastic, but I guess it is about the best it can be for the Kindle 2. When I set column widths, it does not stay after I save and close the sheet. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy tool
A useful spreadsheet for simple calculations.

The Kindle interface makes it cumbersome to enter data, though. It might work better on the newer models.
