5.0 out of 5 stars A spectacular solo album from Ambrosia's David Pack!
Extremely catchy, well written and realised music by Mr. Pack. Typical of his work with Ambrosia, you get one of rock's best voices, superb and inventive guitar work, and dazzling arrangements. All I can say is, if you like Ambrosia, David's voice or simply enjoy genuine musical artistry, then get this album!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's David Pack.....NOT Ambrosia
I pre-ordered "Anywhere You Go" because of the song "Prove Me Wrong" that is featured in the movie "White Nights." I was severely disappointed to discover the version on the album is different from the movie...I actually liked the movie version much better. That disappointment set the tone for the rest of the album. I listened to it once and decided it was a waste of...

If you liked the group Ambrosia than you will definately enjoy David Pack's "Anywhere You Go" CD. The vocals are put together so well, that it will be a very short time before you start singing these songs. The suprise piece of this album is "I Just Can't Let Go" vocals by David Pack, Michael McDonald, and James Ingram. There are other songs on the album that are equally excellent. If your sick of all the garbage you hear today then get this CD, you will be pleasantly surprised. I hope we hear more from Mr. Pack and his friends. Anywhere You Go

I pre-ordered "Anywhere You Go" because of the song "Prove Me Wrong" that is featured in the movie "White Nights." I was severely disappointed to discover the version on the album is different from the movie...I actually liked the movie version much better. That disappointment set the tone for the rest of the album. I listened to it once and decided it was a waste of money, but after giving it some thought, I listened to it again and actually liked it a little better. My first suggestion to anyone thinking of buying this album is to realize it's NOT Ambrosia, it's David Pack. I'm a big Ambrosia fan and loved what David Pack did with the group. Regardless of the fact this isn't Ambrosia, I was hoping for some remnant of the old Ambrosia sound. David Pack's first album is a lot lighter and pop-oriented, so it's a completely different sound....EXCEPT for his voice. Not to critize his voice, but I think he did much better vocal work with Ambrosia than in his solo albums. Even though there are many talented artists that worked on this album, the songs don't seem to exhibit that talent. I feel this was an attempt to just quickly put out an album than to actually produce a quality piece of work. Anyways, to tie it all up, I think this album would be a great buy for someone looking to expand their library, but don't get your hopes up too much. This album may take a while to grow on you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dated and definitiely pop, March 27, 2008
By
This review is from: Anywhere You Go (Audio CD)
I bought this album when it first came out and was amused by some of the songs but miffed at others. It doesn't take long to figure out that Joe Puerta was definitely the more progressive of the Puerta/Pack duo.
Don't take this as a direct comparison (I know better), but I would say this LP/CD shows Pack to be more of the McCartney in the relationship with Puerta more of the Lennon component.

The sound and mastering on the LP/CD is top notch as Pack has never put out inferior sounding material.

When it came out, I remember "How Can You Love ME" making the radio but not staying long. "I Just Can't Let Go" made it on some of the "light jazz" FM stations and stayed around for about a year. It is heard every once and again. I still hear "That Girl Is Gone" every once in awhile.

Unfortunately, when I listen to the songs, they sound terribly dated.

Pack's creativity is definitley poorer without his former bandmates.
Would I recommend this? Yes! Especially David Pack fans..and newbiew as well.
I would not recommend it to anyone who appreciates the first 2 Ambrosia LPs.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Owe David Pack an Apology..., September 3, 2009

When I first heard this release some years ago, I quickly dismissed it as not worth listening to. Perhaps, I was still smarting from the fact that Ambrosia was no longer recording as a group. I recently decided to give it another listen, with fresh ears. Considering these songs were originally written and recorded in the early to mid-eighties, I was delighted to discover that they have really stood the test of time. If there is a weak link in the bunch, in my opinion it would be "She Don't (Come Around Anymore)"...even though Mr. Pack is aided in vocals by his good friend, the fabulous Michael McDonald, I find the song a bit repetitious with an unecessary manic pace. Mr. Pack's Ambrosia bandmates, the talented Joe Puerta and Burleigh Drummond, also appear on several songs from this release along with the aforementioned Michael McDonald and James Ingram on the wonderful "I Just Can't Let Go". A particular highlight for me is "That Girl is Gone" which has a very upbeat Michael Jackson sound to it. "Prove Me Wrong" from the movie "White Nights" is great, although not quite the same version as was in the movie. Why David Pack has never become a household name continues to elude me. His very recognizable voice is one of the clearest and best of our day. He is a talented musician, songwriter and producer as well. Others can dismiss his solo work as not very Ambrosia-like, but I realize that it is in actuality an example of his versatility. But still, no one pens a better love song... Thank you David, and I'M SORRY!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Go Wrong With David Pack!, November 13, 2008
This review is from: Anywhere You Go (Audio CD)
There are so many artists that have unique voices, and David Pack is one of them. You can love him in the band Ambrosia, or as a solo artist, but he has a beautiful, soulful voice that makes the cd, Anywhere You Go, one of his best to date. I purchased the album years earlier for the song, I Just Can't Let Go, so I had to purchase the cd too. Some of my favorite songs, are the slow and romantic ballads, which include the title above, and also, Just Be You. The title track, Anywhere You Go, is just a great song to lead off to the other tracks. It has an 80's pop music sound that creates a great mood for the songs that follow. The tracks on this cd are a little different than Ambrosia tunes, but David Pack puts a nice soulful spin on this one to showcase his wonderful voice! And also, with such back up musicians, as Michael McDonald, James Ingram, and Mike Porcaro, helping out on this, you just can't go wrong with the musical arrangements. Some other great songs are, Won't Let You Lose Me, That Girl Is Gone, She Don't Come Around Anymore, and My Baby. There isn't a bad song on this cd. David Pack shows just as much talent with this solo project, as he did with Ambrosia. This is a cd that you will always want to listen to for years to come.

Classic David Pack! If you like his stuff (or were an Ambrosia fan), you will most likely enjoy this one. I fell in love with the track "That Girl is Gone" back in college when it was actually played on the radio. He did a remake of the track "I Just Can't Let Go" on his "Secret of Movin' On" cd a couple of years ago, but I still prefer the original on this recording. That being said, I would DEFINITELY recommend "Secret of Movin' On" to any David Pack/Ambrosia fan. LOVE that one even more!!!!
