Dear Editors,
I have just finished reading Vladimir Guerrero's book, The Anza Trail and the Settling of California, and I believe you have a winner. Dr. Guerrero's introduction is flawless, well written, and succinct. His hard hitting analysis of the treatment of Sebastian Tarabal is not only provacative, but heart wrenching. Superb and brilliantly stated, very few have taken this in-depth look at el Peregino's life. His focus on Palma's devotion to the Spanish since the time of Garces, rather than the time of the expeditions, has added another dimension to the story. His exposé is historically accurate, beautifully written and superb in content, no doubt it will enlighten the reader like never before.

History most interesting. Historic characters come alive. They suffered ordeals and celebrated successes. |
