Book Description

April 1, 2005 Cowrie
A band of passionate conservationists wage war against the ravages of pollution and unregulated genetic engineering in this eco-thriller about sustainable ecology, the morality of science, and the interplay between local interests and the demands of the corporate and political world. New Zealand's ancient Maori tradition blends with feminist ideology as Cowrie and a group of citizens from a traditional New Zealand village take on multinational corporations and the government in order to address the crisis that has overcome their community: an ailing teenager and a wilting coastal ecosystem that they blame on irresponsible pollution legislation and years of thoughtless environmental exposure to unfettered genetic modification.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Ao Toa: Earth Warriors (Cowrie) (Paperback)
i read this book cos my mum got it and was amazed. it is really cool the way it empowers minority peoples. i am a maori kid living in a rural town in aotearoa - new zealand. i love the way this novel captures you and i could not put it down. the characters are cool and hip and i learned heaps about ge and the politics governments do not want us to know. i really like the rongoa maori hui too - learning about the traditional maori medicines which my aunty has told me about - and how the plants can heal us all. i learned heaps about the anti-war movements and how people all over the world think. but best of all, i could not put the book down and as soon as i read it once i started all over again. this is the kind of book you wanna buy heaps of copies and hand out to everyone you know. go buy it now and post a review and tell me what you think cos i will tune in again. kia kaha Whetu
