Product Description

From the Manufacturer

This highly detailed Aoshima 1/48 scale plastic model kit accurately recreates the apollo 11 command module "Colombia" and "Eagle" lunar module, responsible for man's first ever landing on the moon in 1969. The command module piloted by Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took the "Eagle" to the moon's surface. This historic kit includes 2 astronaut figures, completely detailed external command and lunar module, decals and more. The lunar module and command module can be separated. An unusual display stand with simulated lunar surface is allows the model to be displayed as flown. Part of Aoshima's space Ship series, this kit is a "must have" for any space exploration collection.

Product Description

Highly detailed 1/96 scale assembly model kit of the Apollo Spacecraft used during the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing, which took place on July 20, 1969. Launched on July 16, 1969, the Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon, and it carried three American Astronauts: Mission Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr. On July 20, 1969, Astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the Moon, while Collins orbited above. This beautifully detailed Aoshima 1/96 scale assembly kit includes a display base and 2 Astronaut figures.

This review is from: Aoshima Apollo Command Module And Lunar Module Model Kit (Toy)
This isn't a toy. It is a re-pop of the Revell 1/96 Apollo CSM/LM model from the 1960s. First, the bad news: do not rely on the box packaging (as I did), thinking that the CSM is going to be a Block II version; it is in fact a Block I, just like the Revell version. Also, both spacecraft are molded in white, which makes painting a bit more challenging. The good news is that Revell/Aoshima's LM is pretty accurate, at least for the purposes of this scale. The legs fold and unfold, just like on the Revell version. I was hoping that the CSM would be Block I, as a used Saturn V model I got on e-Bay was missing its CSM, and only had a partial LM. Unfortunately, I was forced to buy a RealSpace Models CSM to get an accurate version, which I should have done to begin with. If you want both spacecraft, get a RealSpace CSM, and try to find a separate LM on e-Bay; you'll come out ahead money-wise and accuracy-wise.
I did, however, save almost 50% going through Amazon, as opposed to shopping in hobby shops locally.
