No Fuzz, Yet No Complaints,

This review is from: Apache 65 (Audio CD)
This was Davie Allan's first album, and it was before he got his "fuzz" on. The fact that he doesn't have his trademark sound at this point may be discouraging for some, but I must say that if you like Davie Allan, don't let this one pass you by. While not fuzzy, this shows that Allan really had a knack for a good tune. It sounds more or less like the albums that came after it, but the difference being that the guitar has a cleaner, more surf like sound. But I would think folks into this scene would rather embrace something like that than run from it anyway. Allan's take on Apache is a much faster and up tempo. Not my favorite version of the song, but very good. The album's quite short, but that also won't be much of a surprise. Not recommended as a first disc to those curious about the Davie Allan sound, but definitely a fine addition to the fan's collection. In fact, I tend to listen to this more than his other cds!
