4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing for price, but be careful!
This 4 channel RC helicopter is in my opinion the best out there for under $100. Response from the controls is snappy and precise once trimmed correctly. Durabilitiy has yet to be attained, as I would see most people buying this particular model would be relatively new and inexperienced to the world of RC Helicopters

Durabilitiy has yet to be attained, as I would see most people buying this particular model would be relatively new and inexperienced to the world of RC Helicopters

Battery lasts for about 10 minutes and takes 40 mins - 1 hr to charge fully
Tail rotor is cosmetic only, but still cool
Indicator on transmitter for batter power, and led on helicopter for battery life left in li-ion battery(sometimes hard to see)

Pros-
Price
Speed and control
Looks
BEST BY FAR IN CLASS FOR TRIM ADJUSTMENTS! CANT BE BEAT FOR PRICE!

Cons-
Somewhat lacking on durability for an entry level helicopter
Notched throttle provides lack of precise control for hover flight, unlike a spring tension throttle (Only on occasion however)

4.0 out of 5 stars great beginner copter, March 19, 2008
This review is from: RC Apache Helicopter 4 Channel Remote Control Ready To Fly (Toy)
This product is great for beginners to intermidate fliers. Very responsive controls. Plenty of power. Battery lasts 10 to 15 minutes depending on how you fly it and the conditions which you fly it in. Ok for flying indoors if you have lots of room and high ceilings. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to get into RC helicopter flying. The charger indicates when the battery is fully charged and protection is built in to cut off charging when battery is fully charged. Alot of simular products don't do that. Comes with extra rotor blades. I have smacked mine on furniture and the ground alot, it keeps on going. Still flying on original rotor blades. I also have the 2 channel version of this same chopper hard to control I would not recommend that model. The 4 channel is far superior. It's worth extra money for the amount of controlability that you get from the 4 channel. Not to mention this model looks cooler as well. If you buy this product have fun and fly safe.

I have a few RC Helis and a simulator. Ordered this and promptly crashed within 10 seconds. Baffled, I ordered replacement blades and stabilizer bar. Next try, very carefully started to fly after physically checking everything out. RC controller went to full throttle even though trims and stick were at zero. Immediately turned the controller off but motor kept running. Reset, started again, hovered for 5 seconds and then motor went to full throttle without me touching anything and crashed. Electronics are junk. Too bad because it could be a fun toy to play with rather than my Esky birds.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good beginner model, January 8, 2008

Like many I monkey'd around with the smaller Havoc Helicopters and thought this a good next step. I now realize cheaper isn't better, this is $100 I'll never see again
This is not a good first helicopter; the parts are only available mail order and usually shipping costs as much as the parts. The controls are super sensitive and not good for a beginner.
It looks cool and maybe more experienced RC people can control it but the parts issue makes it too costly.
Trust me spend the extra dough and check out the Blade CX2 by e-flight its way better for a first time helicopter. Extremely stable and responds well plus parts are as close as your nearest hobby store and it's Fun.

2.0 out of 5 stars RC Apache Heli 4 channel, January 6, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
I have found thhe Helicopter extremely hard to find any parts for, and considering how hard the machine is to just get to a stable hover, replacement parts are important. I would not buy this again

This helocopter is a lot of fun. It's a little tricky to get the hang of at first, but once I got used to it I've had a blast with it. My friend had gotten one or two other copters that were way too fragile and says this is much more durable, but it does require some on site maintenance. It came with replacement blades, which is the most common thing to break. The one big down side we've encountered has been finding replacement parts. You can find them online, but no one seems to have them in stock. It states that this is supposed to be an indoor toy, but unless you have access to a gymnasium size room, you'll definately want to be taking this outdoors on a calm day.

3.0 out of 5 stars Apache Helicopter RC, February 8, 2008
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This helicopter was fairly easy to set up but, the parts are made of extremely cheap materials. It is not very durable, light crashes tend to break parts easily. However, it is fun or at least was while it lasted. If it is going to be your first RC helicopter be prepared to buy a lot of replacement parts and a lifetime supply of super glue. I would recommend buying one that you can get metal replacement parts for first. Overall I would not recommend this product and I would do a lot of research before buying one.RC Apache Helicopter 4 Channel Remote Control Ready To Fly

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeded my expectations by far, December 13, 2008

I'm aware that there are some split opinions regarding this particular unit. Some people have loved it and others have had tough luck. For what it is worth, my experience has been superb. Having never flown an RC copter, and with a very small living room, I think I represent an almost worse case newbie. Indeed, the crashes have been severe and numerous. However, I'm amazed that the blades are built to accept such punishment to the extent that now I'm pretty good at controlled flight without having to replace the blades yet.

I'm considering ordering another because it's so fun and I'm realistic that a disabling crash is likely in its future. I'd also recommend ordering a second or third battery so you don't have so much down time waiting for the thing to charge (maybe an hour). You can find replacement batteries easily for under [...] and even upgrade the quality to extend your flying time if you want.

One comment I'd make involves the trim controls on the remote. At least one person here and several in other places have advanced the theory that the trim controls are adjusted at the factory and caution you not to mess with them. That's b.s.! First of all, can you imagine the time and effort necessary to adjust the trim on each copter! I have to laugh at the thought that anyone over in China is lovingly taking the time to trim each unit. To put this to rest I've gotten mine hovering and have played with the trim levers. They do, indeed, allow you to trim the unit's flight but their function is not so precise as to make it a disaster if they are set wrong. To the contrary, they are easy to adjust and are relatively forgiving.

One thing that is not exaggerated is the worthlessness of the instructions. Forget about getting any useful information there. The controls are pretty simple. The left joystick controls the throttle (how high you fly is up and down) and the rotation of the copter (push right to rotate right and left to rotate left). The right joystick is forward and backward (up and down on the lever) and left and right (left and right on the stick).

When I got mine I couldn't get it to power up and the LED light kept flashing inside. It flashes three times and goes steady green when it is locked in to your control. I had to learn to adjust my joysticks to get the thing to recognize my controller. Just keep swinging the sticks until you see the lights turn green and then you're set.

I'm enthusiastic about this and I recommend it to you if you're a bit adventurous and a bit of a gambler because I can see how a novice could possibly break this thing on the first flight. However, I've crashed it severely and was able to survive.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This! Save Your Time and Money!, January 3, 2009
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This item was bought for me as a gift from a family member, and the unit arrived DOA. I called in the DOA to ask for a return to get my brother his money back, and they instead insisted trying to solve the problem by replacing whatever was broken. Based on the fact that putting batteries in got no response, the transmitter (controller) seemed to be defective, so they decided to ship me a new one. Not only did this seller take a week to even get a new transmitter shipped, the transmitter that arrived ALSO did not work!

I strongly suggest to anyone thinking of buying this product to look elsewhere for a better quality item. This piece of junk has had zero reliability for me, and the seller has not been adequate in addressing my initial request to return this piece of junk for a full refund to the person who attempted to get me a gift. Both the product and the seller have been sub-par for the duration of this purchase, and at this point I'm concerned that now it won't be returnable because it's been a week and a half (the seller's website has a three-day return policy on RC toys).

If you are looking for a known good remote control heli that is reliable and more likely to be worth what you spend, I suggest looking for the E-Flite Blade MCX at the same price point as this product, or if you're willing to spend a little more for good quality and a large replacement parts and support community on the web then search for the E-Flite Blade CX2. This piece of junk is not worth the money you pay for it, and getting any kind of reliable support from this seller has been a nightmare. If I could give this product negative stars I surely would.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun Toy, if you know how to make it work , & fix everytime, January 4, 2008
By
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
I got this from handheld items couple months ago. Remember the box indicates that is only for adults 15+ or older, and they mean it. It has about 8 controls the the remote and it's not easy to calibrate it. You need some background or a lot of patience, before you can get it off the floor, let alone flying it.

IMPORTANT: The unit and the remote arrives calibrated. So, DON'T EVER ADJUST the controls on the remote except for the throttle and direction. All other controls/trims usually come adjusted and set from the factory. If you change it, you're in trouble. If you've trouble , then instead of adjusting it, just return it and ask the tech dept at handheld to calibrate and send it back to you.

I had to return this to handheld items, the first time, because I couldn't get it off the ground. But they denied refund. Although I was a little mad, they fixed the problem, and they perfectly calibrated it and send it back to me. Not to mention I loved the helicopter very much, and someone wanted to fly it. Also make sure you never learn this on hard floor or bare ground. You'll break it. Try practicing on soft grass or indoor soft carpet. The damage will be less.

I don't know, you can probably ask handhelditems when you buy it, to test it and calibrate it and send it to you instead of sending you a factory sealed package. They're good it at.

The technology is excellent, but the construction is somewhat POOR. Although unlike smaller rc helicopters, it has significant weight, which is what damages it quickly if you're not careful. If you're not good at it, it can crash and you'll loose the blades , crack the chassis, and the weights and rip the rotor bindings and so on . For $85, what can you expect. I only hope if they can construct the same in a much more solid and lasting construction. But then, you won't spend your money on buying parts. Coz, the great thing about this toy, it can be assembled part by part, and generally you can get all the parts. You will learn what makes a helicopter fly, after you change few parts down the road, and even learn to assemble one from scratch.

Very powerful, don't ever tighten the blades. The rotar generates so much wind power, it can blow hard stuff off your table. The blades are supposed to be loose and flexible. If you tighten, you'll rip the blades off, and cut yourself too (very powerful motors).

And again, it's no kids toy. Your kid will break it in 10 mins. You might as well throw that money in the trash. Even most adults have huge problems calibrating it.
