4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable read but lacking romance..., June 13, 2005
This review is from: Apache Tears (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book but it was basically a one-sided attraction until the very end. The events in this book are based on real history, which makes it interesting, but I still would've liked to see some romance in this book. Also, the big surprise that was revealed at the end wasn't a surprise at all. It was very predictable.

At the beginning of this book you meet Elizabeth Winters who is a "lady" traveling to Boston. On her way she makes a one-day stop in Arizona where her fiancé Lieutenant Phillip Van Harrington is stationed. Oddly Elizabeth was only going to marry Phillip for money & he was only going to marry her for money, which neither of them had. While making this stop she met a half-breed Apache Scout named Cougar who gave her an Apache Tears necklace that would give her protection in case of an Apache attack on her journey. Cougar was instantly attracted to Libbie & wanted her for his own & Libbie felt something for Cougar but she just wasn't sure what. Months later she escapes back to Arizona because she fears Cougar is about to be hanged & she wants to try & save him or at least say goodbye. On her way to the fort her wagon is attacked & Cougar just happens to be the one to capture her. He's holding her for ransom but he decides he wants her for himself.

I also wanted to point out that way too many things were repeated over & over in this book. Did I mention that things were repeated over & over? LOL! Overall this was a good book if you aren't looking for a hot & steamy romance.

Everyone knows the old Apache legend about the gemstone "Apache Tears". The title for the book befits the story in many ways. There is a lot of unforgetable lust in this book! I couldn't stop thinking about Cougar" and "Libbie" for days after I read the book! I found the story full of suspense and couldn't stop reading it. The setting for the story is packed with more historical facts than most. One of Ms. Gentry's best books!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, not the best for romance, October 2, 2003

Georgina Gentry is terrific about following true the historical events of our native ancestors. This story was no different. Very exciting, heart- gripping, and triumphant story for anyone who enjoys real Indian history.
I was disappointed in the romance part of the book. The leading woman does not even come around and show a bit of true affection towards the leading man (Cougar, Apache army scout) until the very last couple pages of the book. By then, I found myself wishing that Cougar would just dump her in the desert and move on with a better life. I personally enjoy reading about some happy times between a couple. There were none present in this story.
I still recommend the book. The story of the hero character, "Cougar", makes the whole thing worth while.
