5.0 out of 5 stars Dobie tells a fine story., September 14, 2003

This book is an excellent read. It's probably been responsible for more newcomers searching for the Lost Adams Diggings than any other book. However, Dobie wrote this book, not as a work of history, but as a great story. Readers should keep that in mind. Many years ago Apache Gold and Yaqui Silver caused me to begin my own search for the Adams. At that time the Dobie book was the only source. Now there are better sources of information on this subject, but none will ever cause the fast pulse and follow the fast pace of Apache Gold. That's Dobie's gift to the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Dobie, August 14, 2000
By
Benjamin Skeen (Georgetown, CO, the Silver Queen) - See all my reviews
I was introduced to Dobie as a small child, and still love his work. This book is classic dobie: Lost mines and American Indian tresure. The first half, regarding the Lost Adams Mine, is particularly enjoyable. I read this book and begin to plan my trip to find the object of the story. Truly, the stories are tresure enogh. Anyone who has ever dreamed of finding welth, or who enjoys south-western folklore will love this book

4.0 out of 5 stars a treasury of stories of brave and foolish gold seekers, July 13, 1998
By
B. A. LaGrange (Mojave Desert, California) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dobie has a wonderful way of weaving stories about the gold hunters as if you were sitting around a campfire and eating up every word. Some stories are based on legends that may never be verified, others are meticulously chased down and exposed for what they really are. In any reader's hand it's a "fast" read!
