4.0 out of 5 stars Truly A Departure, May 18, 2008
This review is from: Aperture for Departure (Audio CD)
If you ever thought rock and chamber music were a taboo mix- think again. Coming out of Portland , Oregon is Strangers Die Every Day with their rather eclectic, ominous and brooding mix of songs that make up "Aperture For Departure". And a departure it is. This is not metal. This is not your Dad's rock. It is however a plethora of well executed and constructed instrumentals that have a haunting quality that sticks with you like a cloak of dynamic proportions.
Technically, Strangers Die Every Day are all spot on. Made up of Scott Wilkinson-Violin, Lawrence Armstrong-Drums, Jessie Dettwiler-Cello, Stirling Myles-Electric Bass, and Kelly O'Dea-Additional Strings, put forth a backdrop of a neo-classical sound complimented by a slow, groovy backbeat of drums. Think Paddy Kiloran meets Efrim Menuck with an avant garde composer. Bottom line- this is "change your point of view music" worth checking out.
