1.0 out of 5 stars A piece of Junk!
I own one of these. It stopped working on the 94th day I bought it. Customer support is practically non-existent. The only "human" I could talk to was the receptionist (extremely rude!!!) at the corporate office who told me everyone was "busy" and that she could only take my name and number. After many long distance calls, calls to their toll-fee...

Also as another reviewer mentioned, the ability to play MP3 files is very picky about the MP3 format. Luckily this player has upgradeable firmware, so with a little research on the internet you can find an improved version of the firmware (NOT supported or acknowleged by the manufacturer) that fixes these problems.

This player doesn't have the latest bells & whistles like progrssive scan or multiple disk capacity, but for a low price you can get a very capable player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing..., November 15, 2001
This review is from: Apex AD660 DVD Player (Electronics)
So when looking for a DVD player do you want a big name brand that you can trust or do you want a little guy who might go out of business in a year. In this case, you want the little guy. This is the most amazing DVD / SVCD / VCD / MP3 / CD player out there. First off, it plays DVDs which is why your interested in it. Then it plays VCDs, what are those? Videos put onto CD-ROMs that you yourself can make with a home computer. Third it plays discs with MP3s on it! ...It comes with the neccessary things needed to hook it to your television and it comes with a simple easy to use remote (with batteries). This thing is perfect, five built in display options, shuffle feature, programable tracks for your CDs and MP3s. A must have! A warning to people with Super Video TVs, there is no sort of link up available for Super Video.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's played everything I've fed into it, May 26, 2002

This review is from: Apex AD660 DVD Player (Electronics)
It is the only DVD player I have used, so I don't have anything to compare it to. Nevertheless, it has played everything that I have fed into it. That includes VCD's. I have heard nothing but great things from all other Apex owners. But, like all of the other owners, there is one thing I don't like about it. That is, the subtitles default to ON. You have to turn them off manually, for each and every DVD. And they can't be turned off for about 10% of the DVD's I have played. Also, it isn't DTS-capable.

The only "human" I could talk to was the receptionist (extremely rude!!!) at the corporate office who told me everyone was "busy" and that she could only take my name and number. After many long distance calls, calls to their toll-fee number (which is always busy), letters, and emails (all which have gone unanswered), I'm stuck with a defective DVD player. I even posted my complaint on their website (which promised an answer within 24 hours). That was over a month ago, and still nothing. After doing some research on the net, it seems this is a defective machine. I will never, ever buy anything with the name "APEX" affixed to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars by the truckload, June 22, 2006
This review is from: Apex AD660 DVD Player (Electronics)
i work in a retail setting, and i sell apex's by the truckload. the only problem is, my company doesn't sell dvd players. we do sell dvd's though. we went through quite a few high dollar dvd players, rather quickly. in an emergency, we went to wal-mart, and bought the cheapest dvd player we could find (an apex, for under $25).
the unit preformed so well, we wound up replacing pretty much every other player with them. since vhs has been pretty well phased out, i have a lot of disgruntled customers, who have resisted the jump to dvd due to the cost, and not knowing much about it. i send them to wallyworld, and point them to the cheapest apex they can find.
they literally have played everything i have thrown at them, and never had a problem. at work, we run the units 24/7/365. do they wear out? yeah, after a year or three, they do tend to die, so ya spend another 30 bux.
at home, i spend a lot of time mastering video, and developing vcd's for bands to promote themselves with. no matter how flaky the vcd, or svcd, or even kvcd i am making is, the apex plays it beautifully.
on the otherhand, toshiba's, sony's, and panasonic's collect dust in the closet, because i wouldn't even give them away.

trust me, the 30 or so bux on an apex is not wasted, and will repay itself 5 fold easily.

1.0 out of 5 stars She is right on, February 25, 2004

I agree with Juanita, it is a piece of junk. Mine stop working 64 days after purchase. Now I found out that it is discontinued and there is no replacement for it. A totally waste of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a deal. Made me look smart!, April 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Apex AD660 DVD Player (Electronics)
My friend bought a more expensive Panasonic with less features. He had some trouble with it. I did my research and found that this was a better buy and sold for at a cheaper price. My friend was amazed; ya, big name brands and high price are being humbled by Apex DVD players. My highest reccomendations. Go with Apex. The little name that could! And what a price. A smooth ride.
