4.0 out of 5 stars great tv with one minor flaw
there is no stereo! the inputs/outputs are mono. which makes no sense really.

But i really do enjoy this tv. it's great for video games/dvd's. the picture is just crystal. you also have different picture settings you can access with one button press on the remote. default (your setting), theatre, and home. good for switching picture types for games to tv, etc.

The TV worked great for the first 30+ days, then I tried to turn it on one day and the power would only stay on for a second and then it would die. I contacted amazon and they said that their 30 day warranty had just expired and that they would not accept the TV back. Don't buy this TV...

the mono sound output is easy to bypass if you just connect the audio out from your dvd/vcr to your stereo. I needed a new TV but want to wait for prices in HDTV's to come down a bit. this is a great TV to hold me over till then and i didnt have to spend alot of money

3.0 out of 5 stars Good value, not a great value., October 7, 2003

I wanted an inexpensive 27" tv to carry me over until I could afford a really well made television. I have had this TV since last Christmas and I agree that it is a good, not GREAT value for the money. The screen is fine. The sound is ok, However, since day 1, from when the tv is turned on, it emits a high pitch whining sound which is very annoying! This sound continues for about 30 minutes until the tv "warms up'. A new sound is then left, much like a fuzzy, static, low crackle sound. The screen also cuts off written scrolls such as CNN etc written at the bottom, and any news alerts...!!! I wont complain though, cause the only one that comes in is Fox news and that is the main one that I am concerned with, so...In conclusion, this tv is a good value for the money, but comparing it to my 19" Samsung from 10 years ago, that is still a much better value and was great in all around quality for sound and picture and options, being that it was the "Apex" of it's day.I would still pick that over this one. There are PLENTY of other makes and models out there for around the same price as this Apex. Shop around and get a better tv or take your chances. I heard its either a hit or miss with this one, just like their DVD players...Good luck!

Can't beat this 27" TV for the price. Compared to similar models of Sony, Philips, and RCA, picture quality seems to be much better. Especially using S-Video input. No stereo when using TV speakers but if you're big into sound you will probably get a tuner system anyway. One other issue I have using S-Video input when the TV is put in standby mode and turned back on, it defaults to standard video input (eg. coax or video in). Easily changed with the remote though. Picture quality makes up for all the downsides though.

I was recently in the market for a 27" TV, and I made the rounds to my usual set of about 6 or 7 electronics suppliers. It was then that the APEX caught my eye. Relative to comparable televisions, the picture quality was extremely high, with a sharpness that could not be found in similar models. It was restricted to mono sound, however this was not a concern for me, as I didn't need sitcoms in stereo. The final touch was the slick styling of the set, so I picked it up.

All was well for the first few months, until a bizarre rattling sprung up. At any point in which the picture tube showed an image that was brighter than it was dark, the set emits an extremely loud rattling from inside the case. About a month later, the screen corners became cloudy and took on a purple hue.

I called the warranty center and, of coure, it was just out of its 90 day warranty - the customer service reps were of no help. To be fair, the parts are actually covered, but it will cost me over half of what I paid for the set in labor to fix it. So today I sit with a rattling, purple-cornered, slick looking TV.

As an added note, the faceplate covering the controls has the sturdiness and quality workmanship of a Cracker Jack prize.

Don't make the same mistake I did.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this product, November 17, 2003

i bought this model 6 months ago. the volume now pops in and out. you are better off spending an extra 20 bucks, and getting an RCA or someother well-known company brand with stereo.

this model is not worth 60 bucks. unless someone is giving you this television, because you only need one for a couple months. don't buy this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great, September 23, 2003

For the money this tv is a pretty good deal, but if you want something that will last a while, sink some more money into a name brand. I've had this tv for a little over a year, and the tube is beginning to show color loss at the two top edges. Also, I have been disappointed with the sound. I know, it's not stereo (I knew that when I bought it) but I was willing to overlook that because I was strapped for cash. But the volume level is difficult to figure out, sometimes it's up to almost full volume and difficult to hear, sometimes it's down to almost lowest and it's still too loud. Also, volume level 10 - 30 or more sometimes makes no apparent difference in the actual volume.

2.5 stars overall.

I bought the TV a few months back when it was first put on sale. I have since fall in love with the TV. The set works great since I owned it with no problemo. I know it only has mono sound, but who cares, if someone really is picky about the sound, then buy an audio system. I especially love the handle bars on both side of the TV, making moving & relocating extremely handy. Did a little bit research on the manufacturer, the maker of Apex happens to be the largest TV maker in China. So I guess they can't become No. 1 maker for no reason. I think the TV should last for years to come....

3.0 out of 5 stars Low price...but a bit annoying, September 28, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Apex AT2702 27'' TV (Electronics)
After purchasing this TV I was pleased with it's picture and sound for the money I paid. Shortly after, however, it began making a high pitched sound that comes and goes and seems to get worse when colors become bright or intense. I haven't a clue why it does this, but it's enough to really get on your nerves. This may be a fluke...but it's enough to make me think twice about another Apex product coupled with the fact that I can't find any sort of company webpage for any sort of explanation.
