I work out at home using dumbells and a number of bodyweight exercises. My dumbbell collection had grown cumbersome and messy, so I looked around for a way to organize these dumbells in my room, and this rack was perfect. I did look at a number of racks both online and in RL, but the majority were way over my budget, had crippling shipping charges or were too limited in terms of their capacity to space ratio. I was just about ready to fabricate my own when I found this on Amazon. After reading the reviews and crunching the numbers, I decided to give this a shot. I'm happy to report this has completely solved my dumbbell storage problems.
***
This rack arrived a couple of days before anticipated; with the use of a single crescent wrench, I put it together without assistance in the space of an hour or so. Well within 2 hours of opening the box, it was in place and holding weights. It is solidly made of heavy gauge steel and quality welds covered in a tough tactile coating material. The construction method is of simple carriage bolt and nylon insert locknut assembly. It ships with rubber coverings for the feet and all orifices.
***
The actual dimensions of this rack are 36.75" x 24" x 32" (W x D x H). Add at least a foot to the height for the minimum workable usage space (for lifting the weights in and out). I have filled it's available space with sets of 10-50# dumbbells in 5# increments. For the past month, it has held 540# and remained absolutely rock solid. From the feel of the thing, it could hold easily twice this weight without issue.

Highly recommended for personal use or even tight boutique space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the price, April 10, 2007

If you are looking for a sturdy, easy to assemble, rack that will hold 6-8 pairs of dummbells, this is a good one to buy. I have a small home gym and needed just this size rack. In 30 minutes I had this rack put together and it is very solid. For the price you can't beat it. I am a personal trainer and I have seen a lot of equipment. This is a great buy, especially compared to some of the flimsy racks that are marketed for home use.

For the price, which was a great deal less than any other same capacity rack, the Apex dumbell rack is hard to beat. The tiers are recessed which allows for easier access, yet the rack is built so that it does not take up any more space than a rack with vertical tiers. The rack seems to hold up well, and it will easily hold up to 7 pairs of dumbells, Recommended.

I was happy to read the other reviews of this product, but when it arrived, I had to wonder if the company had changed hands - or manufacturers.

The box seemed well-packed from the outside, but the first thing I noticed when I opened it was that the cardboard and plastic container that was supposed to hold the small parts had broken open. The pieces were everywhere. It's a miracle none slid out of the box. This isn't a catastrophe, obviously; it was just the first hint that there was no care taken in packaging.

The larger metal pieces were loosely rolled in bubble wrap and taped once or twice, then thrown into the box where they could slam into each other during shipping. Most of the metal pieces are scraped and scratched. Unlike the photo shown above, there is lettering on each of the rack uprights. Not surprisingly, the "A" in "APEX" is missing on one of them. Again, not a disaster from a usage perspective, but I don't have a basement, so whatever rack I eventually choose, it will be in my living space, so details like this are not unimportant. This just shows a further lack of attention to quality.

Last, but definitely not least, I took a look inside one of the uprights as I was putting it away. It's rusting. It also doesn't feel as heavy/sturdy as some of the other reviewers describe, so again, it makes you wonder if it's the same equipment as they received. Needless to say, it's going back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rack for the price, July 19, 2008

This review is from: Apex Deluxe 3-Tier Dumbbell Rack (Sports)
I recently got this dumbbell rack and couldn't be happier. I have two cats and dumbbells ranging from 5 to 45 lbs. Anyone who has cats knows that that combo is a recipe for great gobs of cat fur collecting under the weights and no matter how often you vaccuum or sweep, it somehow manages to recongregate. This rack gets all the dumbbells off the floor, preventing the collection of fur and other dirt, and makes the weights a lot more accessible.

The one comment to add to those of the others here is that this rack really only works well with hexagonal dumbbells. I had two round-bell 10-pound dumbbells and when I tried to place them on the rack, they slipped off and fell. So I've had to replace them. I prefer the hexagonals anyway, but if you have nothing but round-bell weights, you might want to look at a different design. But if you have the standard hexagonals, you'll love this. It is compact, solid, and surprisingly solid for the price. Plus, if you are a Amazon Prime member, it will ship for free, which is pretty amazing given its weight. I highly recommend this rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Choice, November 17, 2006

Made very well for the price. The three racks are ~32" in length. Holds about 9 sets of dumbbell max. Easy to assemble and easy to access weights due to the slight angle. Could not ask for more. I chose this one after many searches; good product.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect product for the task, January 7, 2009

After doing a fair amount of research and reading the reviews I chose this Apex dumbbell rack for my home gym and am not disappointed. It is rock solid, functionally built, and fits in nicely. For some reason the instructions say to use 2 adjustable wrenches, when all you really need is one socket wrench and it easily assembles in about 15 minutes. That 15 minutes though does not count the 30 minutes it took me to go to Lowes to replace 3 missing screws and 2 washers. The box had a sizeable hole ripped open in it upon arrival and on top of that most of the screws and nuts and washers that were there were loose, so obviously some fell out in transit. I was surprised I wasn't missing more. Considering that I only paid $89 on Amazon for it with free shipping, I can deal with the missing parts. It's hard to believe that such a well made product can be so poorly packaged though, but if you can make it beyond that then this is a great dumbbell rack.

Simple to assemble, study, attractive and inexpensive. Holds my full set of dumbbbells, from 5 lbs. to 40 lbs. (8 pairs) with room for one or two more.

I shopped around and these turned out to be a terrific value.

This product looks good with a charcoal hammered enamel finish. It assembles easily with no issues. Its very sturdy and because the rack is slanted front to back, its easy to access the weights.
I like the three racks because it fits a full complement of dumbells with some room left over for extra plates for a bench press. As an example, I have hexagonal dumbells, and my weight set-up is as follows: 5-8-10-15 lb pairs on the top rack; 20-25-30 lb pairs on the middle rack; and 35 lb on the lower rack along with my extra 5lb and 10 lb plates (which I made a simple holder for).
