5.0 out of 5 stars Best projection TV Ive ever seen
I bought this tv 6 months ago and man it is worth every penny. It is the clearest projection screen I've ever seen. I've had people come over my house and ask if it was Hi-definition. when I tell them its projection screen they dont believe it. I love this Big Screen TV. so If your looking for a big screen I know for a fact that the this APEX is your best bet.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Value if the TV worked as designed
Buyer beware if you intend to purchase.

Why? Simply...some problems with the TV I purchased.

1. The Clock failed to keep correct time, therefore the 'Timer' functional was useless.
2. The factory setting for the Convergence was way off, and therefore it requires the owner to converge the RGB lines. Not a big task, just time consuming. Nevertheless, once...

Nevertheless, once converged, excellent Picture quality and from DVD very nice. When I placed the TV in Standby mode for 1 - 2 hours, all the user settings were lost. So back to converging the screen again and again and again and storing the data/info but it constantly failed to keep the settings. My eyes were burnt from looking at the grid pattern. BTW the right side of the screen was next to impossible to converge had to suffer color distortion at the edge. I contacted the retailer and told them I had problems and they suggested that I contact the local 'service dealer'. I tried numerous times, but Apex customer support's phone line was always busy and could never get through. Apex's website was no help either in find the local service dealer contact info. Beginning to spot a trend here --- my opinion 'poor customer service'. In the end the retailer got the information for me. I contacted the local technicians to they had to order parts after consulting with Apex in CA. This took serveral days. After a week of waiting (definetly not 'over nighted') the technicans installed the parts, but it didn't resolve the problems! The technician confirmed with me that they had been in touch with Apex technical support and they were doing what was suggested. So, back to the drawing board, and back to Apex Tech. Support, the local service dealer had to take my TV into the shop. 2 weeks later, still no TV in my house, more parts (Again not 'over nighted')and technicians tell that the clock now runs fast +3 minutes gain in a 1.5 hour period. I guess it's better than a loss of time? Not!
The technican didn't confirm or deny with any certainy wether or the convergence is fixed. I got to test that out myself I suppose.

At the beginning of the problems I emailed Apex but it appears that the email was never received. Oh well.

Bottom line. The picture is great if your TV runs OK. Maybe I am the unfortunate one out of a thousand, or ten, or five --- whose's to know.

Advice, really check out the TV before buying. I rated the TV low because of the poor service I received. I always beieve problem can be resolved in a timely manner, but not apparently so in this case.

So I plan to return the TV to the retailer and tell him not to carry such promblematic TV which should help avoid customer frustrations in the future for them.

Live and learn eh? Hope you do better than I did.

1.0 out of 5 stars RUN, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING APEX, NO MATTER WHAT!!!, November 12, 2003

Do not buy this, or anything else. tv broke after 3 weeks of limited use.(maybe 1 or two sittings a WEEK) amazon wouldn't take it back, and Apex took a MONTH to find a repair center, i live in Baltimore MD, a major metropolitan area! The repair center has it, going on 3 THREE months, still not repaired. Apex says "oh, all we can do is repair it", but obviously they dont. They are a rip off, do not buy from them, the picture was bad and the quality is even worse. Apex is good for a gag gift at best. Buy it if you want, i warned you. Good Luck.

1.0 out of 5 stars buy at your own risk, November 13, 2003

This companies warrenty is worthless and their customer service department is a joke. Bought a big screen from them in june, it wouldn't recieve a signal took almost a month to get a service person to repair it (took all of 5 minutes when he got there). In October same problem occured it's mid november still no service person. Have probably spent a minimum of 40 hours on the phone with each instance trying to get the problem resolved. Lots of we'll call you back before the day is out or we will call you tomorrow that were never followed through. 800 number disconnects you after being on hold for 20 minutes.

Emails don't help, calls to the headquarters don't help. Asking to speak to management doesn't help.

If you can put up with that on a 1000$+ purchase, be my guest.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best projection for the price!, July 18, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Apex GB-5108 51-Inch Projection TV (Electronics)
Just received this projection tv yesterday and it has been a well worth the price. To receive this type of precision image, you would have to pay at least a grand more. It was a great picture and I would reccommend it to anyone that is interested. The only down side is that it has no room on top of the televison for your dvd, vcr, or ect... you will need to buy a stand or sit it on the floor. It is an awsome piece of equipment.

1.0 out of 5 stars Always Busy Custmer Cervice, and of-no-use Web Site, March 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Apex GB-5108 51-Inch Projection TV (Electronics)
I purchased this TV last October.
One day in early March when I was watching on CNN Headline news,
I noticed it suddenly got double image.

I checked a manual, and tried so hard to fix it but couldn't.
There's a menu called "Convergence", however,
I can't move red lines horizontaly. So it's of no use at all.

You can ask question from their web site.
But I've never had any reply.
Also I could find local service centers in WV,
one couldn't reach at all, and the other told me it's too far.

When I call to their customer service center (1-866-427-3946,
I'd had pretty hard time finding that number on their website),
it's always busy. I have to try, try, try, and try in order to
speak to customer service persons.

And then, they told me a local (an hour away from home,
even though I live in a capitol city!!) service center's phone #.
I called them and made a reservation for repairment.
But on the day they supposed to come,
they called me and there should be another center nearer,
and told me to call to hard-to-catch customer service again.

Ah, I gotta try again on Monday...
I have no idea of when I can see clear (normal) image again.
I would defenately not recommend this company's products
from my experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Customer service is terrible!, December 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Apex GB-5108 51-Inch Projection TV (Electronics)
The t.v. is great except for some lines that go directly down the center of the screen while watching a dvd or playing a video game. The picture quality is great, but I only give it 3 stars because of the absolutley terrible customer service. They gave me the run-around for so long that my 90 warranty had expired before I could ever ger the t.v. repaired. I will not buy Apex products anymore because of their customer service.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Apex GB-5108 51-Inch Projection TV (Electronics)
This television has had to be reparied three time, and each time it has been a battle. Now after 2 month, the service center still has not recieved the parts to repair the set.

<-Previous Post rated 5 stars->
1. Order warranty repair immediately to tweak the picture. It is free and makes a world of difference.
2. Cabling can be tricky. Through it has two component inputs, one is 480p while the other is 480i and they share the same stereo sound ports. I have a progressive scan DVD player and the A/V pack for my XBox to also make it progressive scan. I have a problem!
