Good Stand...how about they test it first at the factory?,
By
This review is from: Apex Plus Column Keyboard Stand (Electronics)
I originally saw this stand at rehearsal one day when a pro keyboard player showed up with it. Thought it was one of the coolest things I'd ever seen and the keyboardist swore by them, after hundreds of gigs. Decided that some day I would get one...two years later I did.
The stand seems to work great with a few caveats. First, the original unit I received, supposedly new from the factory, was clearly a B-stock or repackaged unit which was not only damaged but missing a number of pieces. The plastic handle was broken, leading me to believe that the handle needs to be babied so it doesn't crack. Also, one of the little plastic hinges for the lid over where you store the legs had failed (cheap plastic gets easily fatigued at hinge areas). I'm thinking they reformulated their plastic to cut costs. Second, the next unit I received supposedly has "all" the pieces but doesn't totally go together right. A minor detail, but the plastic spacer you need for the microphone clamp was too wide for the screw to grab, making it difficult to assemble. I finally solved the problem myself by buying a file and taking about 1/4" off the spacer. Now the stand works fine, and looks very cool...but, it begs some questions...don't they (Apex/Ultimate) ever test and assemble their own products? Are the manufacturing engineers or quality people asleep over there (probably in China)? C'mon guys, for a $200+ stand, I think you could make the plastic more durable and include the right size spacers.
