Finally... something new and exciting, March 20, 2002
This review is from: Apex Theory (Audio CD)
The video for "Shh... (Hope Diggy)" sparked my interest enough in this band to go see what they had released and pick up a copy. Unfortunately, their full length won't be released until next month, but I did get to pick up this 5-song EP. I was definitely impressed. The middle eastern vibe is here, along with great meaty guitars, weird time signatures, and impressive vocals. My top picks on this album are "Bullshed" and "4RA's". The only reason this cd didn't get 5 stars is because the last song, "Trust Ease" didn't really grab me lyrically or musically. ("...ignorant easter suit" just doesn't seem to make any sense to me) All in all though, The Apex Theory is an amazing new band and I am very excited about the release of their full length album, "Topsy-Turvy". Buy this EP and support this band!

I have been lucky enough to have seen The Apex Theory perform on the SnoCore tour, having never heard of them before, i became and instant addict to their medterranian rock vibes. I purchased this EP at the concert, and i bought another copy a week later, one for my house, one for work. I have also pre-ordered their soon to be released album Topsy Turvy, coming in early April. from one show, i was hooked and i highly recomend this album to anybody, any age, any musical taste. \/\/

A Sweet Taste of Whats Yet to Come, October 22, 2001
This review is from: Apex Theory (Audio CD)
Living in L.A., and being closely tied with the underground metal scene of the city, I could not go a day without seeing an Apex Theory sticker on a wall, window, backpack, or poster. After recieving a demo about one year ago, I became interested in this funk/metal/jazz/new wave/alternative band that was achieving abundant hype in the underground metal scene. I spread the news of this up-and-coming band to friends, but it seems as though I am one of the few that liked them at all. I even recieved comments of supreme idiocy such as "They're too different", or "Ha ha ha! I'd like to hear this band on KROQ." I started to give up hope that a band with any talent, originality, or creative ideas could make it in a world of bland acoustic ballads, and played out riffs destroying mainstream music. Then I heard that Apex was playing at the Roxy with one of my favorite new bands, Dredg. I made 100% sure that I made it to that concert. The huge audience of all Apex fans (only about two or three other people had even heard of Dredg) gave me hope. This may only be an EP, but it contains a few of my favorite Apex songs that unfortunately will not be on "Random Bursts". The bands trademark song, "Shhh..." has newly recorded guitars and is much more drum-led then on the demo. "Bullshed" is an amazing song that starts out sounding like an 80s new wave piece, but then totally changes direction into a alt-metal song with the line "Its all in the way they dress" that every fan will chant at one of their live shows. "Swing This" is definitely my favorite Apex Theory song. Starting out sounding like a slow melodic ballad, it then twists cheerfully into one of the best chorus' I've ever heard. "Hamburger's for all", Andy weirdly enough yells; while being backed up by some amazing guitar riffs, slightly reminiscent of ska-metal, which is expectedly unexpected from The Apex Theory. "4Ra's" takes basicly the same direction as "Bullshed", but introduces some very off-beat vocals and beats. Its this kind of abundantly thoughtful creative ideas that makes The Apex Theory one of the best up and coming bands in the underground alt-metal scene.
