I have owned this bolt cutter for 5 years and have cut a lot of 3/8 inch rebar with it. The last piece I almost cut must have had a hard spot, so I put the handle on the ground and leaned into it as described in the directions. I broke the handle, but I was not too upset since I'd never had a problem with the cutters before. I called Cooper Tool (HK Porter) and was told they do not have replacement handles. Apparently, if you break the handle you were not "using the tool in the way it was designed." "No problem, I'd like to buy for another one or tell me who sells them." "No, we dont have replacement handles, you cannot buy one." The interesting part is you can buy replacement heads everywhere, but not handles. I'd like to meet the genius who thought up this policy.

I decided to be smart and I bought a pair of cheap Chinese bolt cutters. I cut a bunch of stuff, and I began to notice that I was having some trouble cutting. I checked the blades, and the lousy steel was all knicked and dinged up. It was so bad it looked like serrated scissors. There we go, $28 right down the drain.

No more, I said. I want something that is going to work for a long, long time. So I hopped on Amazon and found these. American quality, expensive but good, hard steel. They cut like a dream.

Don't be stupid like I was. If you buy cheap foreign junk, it's only going to break and you're going to have to go out and buy an American made tool that actually works. Spend the extra money up front and get something that's going to last for a long time.

This set of cutters does a nice job. I have used them about a dozen times to cut everything from a large nail to an extra hardened lock. This particular lock was not easy to cut, but the cutters did the job with no damage to the blade. The other items I cut..a couple other locks in the shop, a couple bolts and some misc items were like butter to these cutters. I would recommend this product. Have a nice day.

I bought these bolt cutters for general purpose locksmithing. Cutting padlocks or chains if necessary. I decided to test them when they arrived. I had some 3/8" galvanized chain I use for chaining my motorcycle when I need to. 3/8" is the maximum that these bolt cutters can cut. it cut through the link, but not easily. But I didn't expect them to anyway. There was no damage to the jaws. They should work easily for the job I intend them for. If they can cut 3/8" chain, they can cut anything I will need them for. Good quality bolt cutters for general purpose use.

I bought this HK Porter cutter to replace a cheap Chinese unit I had that kept having it's blade chipped from simply cutting chains. On first use, this bad boy cut through some vinyl coated chain like butter. You DO get what you pay for!!!

Worked great cutting 3/8" medium grade steel chain with some work. After eight or ten cuts the only wear on the cutting edge was the paint was missing at the point of contact.

I am a woman of low to average strength and these work just fine for me cutting 3/8 rebar, even after years of rust and a nick in one of the jaw blades. I might not be able to do something harder in a single thrust, but once the jaws get a grip on what you're cutting, you can rest in between thrusts and easily go at it in several passes, anchoring one side on the ground and putting your weight into the other handle. I've used mine close to a hundred times over the 6-7 years I've had it. I kinda want to buy a replacement but can't really justify it. Just used WD-40 for the rust and it works acceptably.
