Product Description
For the Ai-Naidar, a species of slim, gracile aliens, caste and tradition are not the shackles that imprison the spirit but the silences that make sense of the music of their lives. The Aphorisms of Kherishdar collects 25 short tales about what it is to have an Ai-Naidari soul: to find comfort in tradition, law and structure; to revere interdependence over individualism; to know one's place... to always have one. Also includes 5 full-color painted illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Aphorisms of Kherishdar: Wonderful work!, March 5, 2008
The Aphorisms of Kherishdar encompass a collection of short vignettes that explain the structure of the society of the felinoid alien race called the Ai-Naidari. I absolutely love works related to alien cultures and societies, and I've always tried to get my hands on anything that looks promising in that regard. And this author? Has immense promise. I am eagerly awaiting more of this well-written work.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Aphorisms of Kherishdar, April 16, 2008
The Aphorisms of Kherishdar is a slim, beautifully illustrated and constructed volume of 25 "incense stories" each of which is built around an aphorism penned by the main character, a Calligrapher who serves Civilization. The Civilization in question is not ours, nor is the Calligrapher human (in fact, he has a tail) but the aphorisms foster an interdependence of beings that our culture sadly lacks. The stories, each less than 2 pages long, are beautifully written and transport the reader to an amazing world described so clearly you can almost smell it. And each of them stays with you for days -- hence the term "incense stories". I have found myself reading the volume over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly beautiful, March 12, 2008
By Kris Millering (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Beautiful and humbling, this collection of twenty-five incense stories are about linguistics, calligraphy, society, and what it means to live in a place and time where all have their place. I love this book for the carefully crafted stories, as careful as the Calligrapher who tells them, and for the beautiful illustrations inside them.
