Apt Advice for Armageddon,
By
This review is from: Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! (Paperback)
This is the way the world ends, not with a bang...but a howl of laughter! Who knew that the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse is a brilliant satirist by the name of Rob Kutner? With a gift of prophecy that Cassandra would envy and the swiftness of a Sidewinder missile, Kutner has beaten the likes of those esteemed self-help gurus Heloise, Bob Vila, Dr. Phil, Martha Stewart, Dear Abby, et al. in fulfilling an unrecognized need: an ironic handbook for coping with nearly all aspects of the Last Days. "Apocalypse How" is highly entertaining and may even be useful. I liked it so much I bought copies for my family and closest friends.

The end comes too soon.,
By Matthew David Brozik (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! (Paperback)
You'll regret the coming of the end of "Apocalypse How" almost as much as you'll regret the coming of the end of the actual world (next week). Fortunately, the book is packed with so much verbal and visual humor, you'll need to read it at least twice to wring all the laughs from it... much as you'll want to wring all the potable, nutritious juices from whatever minimally-irradiated flora, fauna, and Frankenfoods you can find when the end-times arrive. You'll want to read the acknowledgments three times.

Like "America: the Book," but with more zombies,
This review is from: Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! (Paperback)
This is a funny, funny book. Very much in the spirit of "I Am America, and So Can You," or "America: The Book." Which isn't surprising, since the author is one of Jon Stewart's writers on "The Daily Show" (as well as a co-author of "America").It's pretty rare that a book can make you laugh out loud, yet this one seems to do it at least once every page. If you're a discerning fan of intelligent, sophisticated comedic prose, or if you simply like jokes about giant robotic ant-monsters, I highly recommend this book.

Laughter for the Left Behind!,
This review is from: Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! (Paperback)
Even more so than the average election year, 2008 feels like the end of the world. For those who don't miraculously ascend to a better place--and let's face it, that's a lot of you--this book might just keep you alive (or at least, keep your hideous demise from being needlessly depressing). With the ability to get a laugh even from a blank page, Rob Kutner is truly humanity's best hope for survival.

Dark humor for dark times,

Do you fear the end of the world? Rob Kutner's new book makes it seem like it will be as fun as a trip to Disneyland!Apocalpyse How presents many ways that the world as we know it might end: nuclear holocaust, robot revolt (a la Flight Of The Conchords' song "The Humans Are Dead"), alien invasion, global warming. And it gives some really funny advice about how we can not just survive, but thrive in the new world order. There are perhaps one too many references to cannibalism for my taste, but Kutner's clever writing and sharp wit makes up for it. My favorite part was the "Fun & Games" chapter near the end of the book. The book does not give enough credit to illustrator Joshua McDonnell. His drawings, photographs and collages are superb, and are as strong of a presence as the writing itself.

I picked up a copy of this book at Rob Kutner's reading at Book Soup last night, and I'm really enjoying it. The illustrations are great too. I hope the end of the world is this funny!

End-of-Times Funny!,
This review is from: Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! (Paperback)
This is a very entertaining, clever, and downright funny book. The layout and graphics are terrific, too, making the book eminently readable. I'm usually the kind of guy who nods knowingly at humor, especially in written form. But I laughed out loud early and often while reading this book, much to my wife's annoyance.

ha!,
This review is from: Apocalypse How: Turn the End-Times into the Best of Times! (Paperback)
Rob Kutner is a damn funny man. Almost too funny. It makes one suspicious that he's artifically augmenting his funniness with steroids and, perhaps, whoopee cushions. good book!

I wish I could hand a copy of this book to every wacko that has a "In case of rapture this car will be unmanned" bumber sticker on their car. It is a funny, great read-- I love the author's sense of humor, had me laughing all afternoon.
