This movie is the first of what is currently a four-part series about the rapture and ensuing tribulation that includes Apocalypse, Revelation, Tribulation, and Judgement. Each movie has gotten progressively better. Apocalypse is decent but has some problems with the scriptwriters simply not thinking. For example, even though the rapture is supposed to be a surprise, the main character's grandmother has time to write a going away note. Also, the antichrist is indwelled by the devil before the rapture occurs, despite the fact that Jesus said only God knows when the rapture will be.

I strongly suggest adding the whole series to your library - all four movies are very useful for witnessing to others.

Like "Left Behind," this movie has a charismatic leader come from eastern Europe and has a famous reporter as a major character. All other comparisons with "Left Behind" can be attributed to the Book of Revelation.

This is an inspiring movie. Seeing what the characters go through will create an interest in what has been predicted about the end of times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Christian Film, May 30, 2001

This film is the first in a series popularly known as the apocalypse series.

It chronicles the Rapture and and the rise of the Antichrist. It shows how the Antichrist will be a great deciever and that he will decieve billions of people. It ends with the Martyrdom of new Christians.

This film shows us what will happen in the near future as it has been predicted in the Bible.

It is a low-budget film but is important to note the film's message and plot rather than its special effects and acting.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Chilling Movie!, October 5, 2000

This is one of the scariest films I have ever seen! It is all the more remarkable because everything that happened in this movie, although fiction now, will one day be a reality. The acting is superb. The music is awesome. The plot and storyline are great. If you are a Christian, or prophecy is an interesting subject for you, you will need this film. It is Biblically accurate in every aspect. It will change your life. Count On It! Grade: A+.

4.0 out of 5 stars Call On His Name Dot Com, September 27, 2000

I really enjoyed this video, but I did think that some of the acting was a bit on the corny side. The Israeli General overacted pretty badly. That said, I found this movie entertaining, well planned out and Biblically sound (though I am not a "pre-trib rapture" believer per se'). Jack Van Impe's influence in this movie was evident, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Dr. Van Impe has some solid insights into the Apocalypse and it shows in this movie. All in all, I would recommend this movie to anyone, Christian or not. You won't be caught sleeping, while this video is playing, that's for sure. Buy it so that others won't be "Left Behind". Speaking of Left Behind, now that should be an awesome movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Start to the Series!!!, July 19, 2003

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This film was the first in the series of those to follow, where it tracks the Biblical prophecies of the "End Times," and in particular the Rapture and the immediately-following Tribulation period. In this first film we are introduced to Helen Hannah, played remarkably well by Leigh Lewis, and her co-anchor Bronson Pearl, played equally well by Richard Nester, and we watch with almost riveting accuracy, as the events foretold thousands of years ago unfold before our eyes.

Army after army descends into the valley of Armageddon in Central Israel, and then millions of people vanish, and it's a media event unlike any in history, with the entire world glued to their TV sets. At that very moment, a charismatic leader arises and performs a miracle of astounding dimensions, that the rest of the world believes he is the long-awaited Messiah.

Only Bronson Pearl and Helen Hannah, the co-anchors of World News Network (WNN), are in a position to uncover the truth, and as Helen begins to uncover the true identity of this great leader, she is torn between her love for Bronson and her new-found understanding about Christ and the Anti-christ. And with global forces in hot pursuit, there's only one chance to warn the world as it rushes headlong into the Apocalypse.

This was an interesting film, and the footage which it uses to show the "around the world" minute by minute breaking news was astounding and very relative to the world we all live in. There has yet to be installed, though, an intriguing piece of technology, which is super-screens, which sit on top of tall buildings in every city in the globe in order to broadcast the news. This was prominent in the movie, and it worked well when used by the Anti-Christ to address the world. It is highly possible that this technology is yet to be revealed, and the instant news and other events could be transmitted within seconds to every area of the world.

This is a great film, and an important introduction to the following three films of the same story. I'm just waiting for the next installment, and I hope it comes out soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY ON DVD!, July 20, 2002

"Apocalypse" is the one that started the revolution in Christian filmmaking. Sure, you may think "The Omega Code" started it, but this film stands up a whole lot better! The DVD is alright, having just trailers and a music video made up of scenes from the movie. A great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse Soon?!, May 14, 2002
By
Jackie Gartland (Manchester, England) - See all my reviews
This is the first of the 4 films based on the Book of Revelation and takes the viewer on a roller coaster of emotions from nail-biting tension right through to sadness! The world seems to be racing towards a nuclear holocaust and 2 sweethearts are caught in the middle of the whole mess! Bronson Pearl, a popular US news anchor, is reporting the countdown to World War 3 in the Middle East while his girlfriend Helen Hannah, also a news anchor, reports the events from the US. Suddenly, just as the buttons are pressed, the weapons disappear as do millions of people from all around the world including Helen's grandmother. What do all the lost people have in common? Why have they been taken and others left behind? Who is this strange man who claims to be God? Is he who he says he is? The 2 lovers, when reunited, have to search for the answers that could put their lives on the line and decide their eternal destinies. Helen finds out the truth about the charismatic world leader but can she convince the man she loves? The film ends in tragedy but courage and love ultimately triumph over the forces of evil.

4.0 out of 5 stars If not for the actors..., August 22, 2001
By

I found this movie to be a good reference point for the End Times Revelations. It was filmed not in a movie forum, but as if you were actually sitting in on someone's real life. If not for the bad acting of some characters, it would have been easily believable. However, it still had the punch and fear factor to bring the viewer to tears. I wish it had been a bit more thourough. I would say that the Left Behind movie covered much more of the whole story. On a complete basis, I would rate this version a four out of five. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Think you know..., May 5, 2004
I was really surprised at this movie. I didn't really suspect it to ammount to much considering it came out a year before Left Behind did. I liked it a lot. It was neat how half of the movie was filmed in the news studio, and that they could go all around the world, and show everything from mostly just one place. A very good idea to which the gorgeous Leigh Lewis is playing the star character.

It is the age of the newscaster era. Top Journalists Helen Hannah (Liegh Lewis) and Bronson Pearl (Richard Nester) are caught in the middle of something about to go off. World War III is erupting all over the face of the earth, in country's that were once allies. While Bronson is over in Israel, Live with the explosion footage, suddenly millions of people disappear all at once off the face of the earth. President Franco Macalousso claims he has taken these people away due to religious purposes, and that they will cause even more disaster on the earth even with the war. Helen finds this suspicious, and investigates, finding out that it is not the people that were taken, but it was the people who were left behind that are in danger. Soon, an associate of Macalousso, Len Parker, is taking over Helens newscaster building claiming he is now the CEO. It seems that he is stalking her with spies, and as she desperately tries to escape, she must remember, there is one more person to convince before she can escape the spiraling doom that the antichrist now has her trapped in.

Some people may have several confusions about Apocalypse, and be skeptical about it at first, but like it says, "Take your bible off the shelf, and read the book of revelation for yourself". I was laughing when everyone disappeared and the clothes were left neatly folded in a pile. This may be possible though, for when Jesus arose from the grave, all that was left in the tomb was a neatly folded pile of grave clothes; signifying God is neat (not neat: terrific, but that too). I was so confused with the Rapture and the Tribulation being only 12 when I saw this. Now that I'm fourteen, I understand all of it, and I've given my life to God.

It really shouldn't take some Apocalyptic event (9/11, thousands of people suddenly going to church) or movie for people to give their life to God. If the Rapture happens, the suicide count is going to be huge considering people will think they can't give their life to God after it happens. Everyone deserves a second chance, and that's exactly what Apocalypse was trying to show. Even if you are left behind, you will have another chance.

The Soundtrack to Apocalypse is awesome. If you didn't like the film, no one can resist the fact that the music always captures everyone no matter what, especially with some of the coolest Christian singers around, featuring my personal favorites, "The Band of survivors" and, "Caught in the eye of the storm". And I'll tell you the truth, the only 100% good acting came from Leigh Lewis who is probably the most underrated actress of our time, but I'm happy she came back in the trilogy of sequels from Apocalypse; Revelation, Tribulation, and Judgment. As for Richard Nester, he was okay, but a little over reactant for the part of Bronson Pearl. I think as the main male actors came in each film, they got better, but no one can replace the indespensible Leigh Lewis as Helen Hannah.

I have noticed something about all the Rapture films. Almost all the starring woman of the films, Left Behind, A Thief In the Night, Apocalypse, all of these have blondes starring as the main characters. Maybe they should change to someone different, but these actresses still do the best. I still think Leigh Lewis is the best out of all of them. Keep up the good Raptures.
