4.0 out of 5 stars What happens to a soldier in the Tribulation times
This was a riveting story although a bit violent which is perfectly understandable in a war book. I don't have any military background but I was still right there in the field with First Sergeant Gander in Turkey and also right with his family at home on the military base in the USA. The emotions of the characters rang true, the mother who has lost her child but...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Disappointing Ending SAVE YOUR MONEY!
You can tell that the author must have given up on this series when he started to write this final book. It is HORRIBLE! It is obvious the author knows nothing about how a real US military unit is organized and ran - a captain does not command a Ranger Regiment and a Staff Sergeant would not be a first sergeant in charge of a whole Ranger regiment either, but that isn't...

You can tell that the author must have given up on this series when he started to write this final book. It is HORRIBLE! It is obvious the author knows nothing about how a real US military unit is organized and ran - a captain does not command a Ranger Regiment and a Staff Sergeant would not be a first sergeant in charge of a whole Ranger regiment either, but that isn't the worst part of this book. The worst part is the author totally ignores the other sub plots he had going on in the first three books of the series. Wanna know who cut Baker's throat from book three? Well forget it because his cut throat is never mentioned in this book. Wanna know who Mystic is? Well you won't. Wanna know Carpathia's plans for the reporter? You won't. You wanna know the fate of Navy Chaplain Delroy Harte? Well too bad he ain't in this book. Wanna know how Joey managed to escape the wrath of Zero and his gang? Too bad, no resolution on that one either. Wanna know if Joey and Jenny hooked up? No resolution. Wanna know if Jenny's dad recovered? No resolution. Basically Odom completely ignored everything that happened in the first three novels of this series and thought up some ridiculous new plots for this final novel such as Meagan and other families deciding to fly to Turkey and help out in the war zone and the US military condoning this. I was in a war and I will tell you if my family wanted to fly out there to be with me I would put my foot down and tell them to stay home where it was safe. The author ended this series with a completely ridiculous novel. I am sorely disappointed with this final novel. It is a big let down after reading the first three. I feel like I have wasted time reading this series, especially when the fourth and final novel went nowhere. Save your money and time and don't even read this novel.

There is closure for only one character - Goose - in this last book in this series. Is there to be another book in this series? Or is this all?

I was going to buy some of your other books, but hesitate to do so as I do not want to end up feeling disappointed again at the end, or rather the lack of an end.

2.0 out of 5 stars left hanging, November 8, 2010

I enjoyed the series but at the end of book #4 I felt like there were so much more to be told. It was like a favorite TV series being cancelled in mid season. Mel, find a way to press on.

This was a riveting story although a bit violent which is perfectly understandable in a war book. I don't have any military background but I was still right there in the field with First Sergeant Gander in Turkey and also right with his family at home on the military base in the USA. The emotions of the characters rang true, the mother who has lost her child but understands that it is the Tribulation and that her child is with God; and the soldier who is angry at the lost of his child and doesn't want to believe that he can no longer protect his family and especially his son even though he doesn't want to allow himself to think about it. Now he is in the midst of a war, can he trust those he has always trusted? Was his friend murdered because he was trying to convince the other soldiers that this was Tribulation and that they needed to make themselves right with God? Where will his path lead him, to or away from God? The author's character development is excellent and believable.

This is the fourth book in a series which is based on the Left Behind Series.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Left Behind Series; seen from a Military point of view, December 6, 2008

This review is from: Apocalypse Unleashed: The Earth's Last Days: The Battle Rages On (Left Behind Military) (Paperback)
The story follows along at the same time of the events that Buck, Rayford, Chloe, and Bruce experience in the second book of the Left Behind Series "Tribulation Force", but from the view point of Sgt. Samuel "Goose" Gander (in the battlefield in Turkey) and his wife Megan Gander (who is back home at Fort Benning). While he struggles to do his job as an Army Ranger, she is struggling to make a home for a bunch of teenagers who are now parent-less (those parents were "caught up" in the Rapture). They are all trying to make sense of and learn how to live in this world that has been left behind. Icarus, a mysterious character has been trying to get to Goose to tell him startling information about the true intentions of the new Secretary General of the United Nations Nicholai Carparthia. Sinister plans are being formed and executed!Tribulation Force: The Continuing Drama of Those Left Behind (Left Behind, Book 2)

There is a lot of military jargon in the book but once it is explained it is easy to remember. It is exciting to see how the characters interact.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unfinished business, November 12, 2008

Loved the book, although I wish the publisher had allowed Mel to continue the series all the way to the Glorious Appearing and not end it with #4. I would have also liked to have seen the storyline that included the chaplain from the USS Wasp continued. The only blooper I found was the mention of a little girl being comforted by her mother during a battle when there should have been no little children left after the Rapture. However, the fast-paced action and detail more than make up for this minor blip. Great job, Mel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Apocalypse Unleashed Is Varnished Truth, November 1, 2009

This review is from: Apocalypse Unleashed: The Earth's Last Days: The Battle Rages On (Left Behind Military) (Paperback)
"Unleashed" continues the action that was unveiled in the first three books of the series. It keeps the story intact but loses some of the intensity of the first and second books. There is a major plot twist at the end of the book but that twist is totally in keeping with the subject that is the basis of the story. Unfortunately, words on paper cannot accurately describe the horrors and terrible atrocities that will take place when the actual events occur. I doubt that any author would really want to try.

It looks like Odom is tired of this series and is stopping it without giving closing or understanding of the outcome of many of the characters introduced in the earlier books of this series. Enjoyed all four but disappointed at length of time between issues and the ending of the last edition.
