5.0 out of 5 stars Rising Death Metal Stars
I don't write many reviews but this CD deserves more. Braindrill is a super group basicly. The guitarist is fast and super technical, drummer is rated as one of the TOP TEN FASTEST IN THE WORLD, and there bassist has a 8 finger tapping technique for his bass! Oh yeah the singer is pretty great to lol. Not only does this band have the talent to make great music but they...

3.0 out of 5 stars listen before you buy
I don't think this is a bad album. I do think it's overrated. IMO Braindrill are talented musicians making average music. This is generic death metal w/ a flashy solo thrown in every 2 or 3 songs. The bassist could use more oppportunities to shine, too- the music D/N take advantage of his gifts. When their songwriting catches up to their technical chops, they'll be...

5.0 out of 5 stars Rising Death Metal Stars, February 25, 2008

I don't write many reviews but this CD deserves more. Braindrill is a super group basicly. The guitarist is fast and super technical, drummer is rated as one of the TOP TEN FASTEST IN THE WORLD, and there bassist has a 8 finger tapping technique for his bass! Oh yeah the singer is pretty great to lol. Not only does this band have the talent to make great music but they are putting that talent to use. The songs are blazingly fast (most clocking in at over 280 beats), brutaly heavy, and masterfuly technical. The drummer at some points makes the double kick bass sound like a machine gun(his like an american Hellhammer)and the guitarist is just crazy. This is the future of death metal right here. They didn't just raise the bar, they blew it out the f**king roof. If you like death metal buy this CD. Stop reading and buy it NOW. Even if you don't like death metal that much you can atleast admire the musicianship. The only flaws in this album are the lack of bass(I really wanna hear what this guy can do) and its a little on the short side. Other than that its flawless for their first album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The apocalyptic feasting has begun, February 5, 2008
This review is from: Apocalyptic Feasting (Audio CD)
This is one album that every death metal fan should have. It is the most brutal stuff i have heard to date next to some of the most tech death metal on the market. The first 10 seconds of the album beging with a drill sound, then after that it is absolute freakin chaos. All I can say is buy this album, you will not regret it. When you finish listening to this album you will feel a sense that your brian has been drilled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmm., May 19, 2008

I think the first four times I listened to this disc my mouth just hung open.
Being a speed / death metal vet. Yes folks, I'm in my mid 30's.
An old geezer by metal standards.
I'm feeling mixed on this disc.
Why did I give it five stars?
The technical skill here is second to none. The songs? Are they songs?
Sounds like a ton of scales and a few mediocre riffs.
I'm anxious though, I heard they broke up, then I read they reformed.
I'm not the metal version of Dear Abby.
But here's some advice.
Keep the speed.
Drop the imagery. The whole cannibal thing has been done to death.
Start writing actual songs that are memorable and dont have five million different parts to each song.
I'm anxious to see what they come up with next album. I'm afraid though, with the tired out imagery, and if they keep doing scales instead of songs, the public will tire of them quickly.
Speedy and memorable would be the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brutal, February 25, 2008
This review is from: Apocalyptic Feasting (Audio CD)
Brain Drill delivers relentlessly brutal death metal on every track of Apocalyptic Feasting. Every aspect of the music is hyper fast and technical, while still providing memorable riffing, vocals, etc. Excellent death metal.

5.0 out of 5 stars You are not prepared, June 24, 2009

I'd been hearing a lot of hype around Brain Drill, specifically the drummer's speed, for a little while before I actually got the album. I sampled their Parasites EP and thought it was decent, but more of a chaotic mess than anything else. Something told me to get this one, and boy howdy.

After about 11 seconds of a drill sound (very clever), the opening track simply explodes. I'm not going to pretend that this is a varied and multi-faceted album with a wide range of songs. It opens at a million miles an hour and only gets faster from there. This is not an album to get if you like your metal with breathing room. There aren't any slow points, no breakdowns, no melodic interludes. Just well-organized chaos.

Let's look at the journey into death metal as a progression. Most realize that if your good friend listens to Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold, you don't want to give him a Deicide album for his first death metal experience. You'll probably throw Opeth or similarly slower groups at him first. That way he eases into the death vox and the general style. Once you've got someone used to Opeth's more death-y spots you might move on to, say, Cannibal Corpse's simpler outings like The Wretched Spawn.

Apocalyptic Feasting is the end of that road. This is as fast, as technical, and as brutal as it's going to get. They have a blazingly fast guitarist, a bassist that uses two-hand tapping on an 8-stringer, and a drummer that can blast-beat at over 300bpm no problem. The vocalist gets the job done with one hell of a shriek as well as a deep growl, although I don't see him as quite so superlative.

What else can be said? Get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tech-Death to the Extreme, August 16, 2008
This review is from: Apocalyptic Feasting (Audio CD)
Brain Drill are not especially innovative when it comes to tech-death: they sound like every other band of that sort, but even moreso--faster, wilder more technical etc. This, my friends, is a good thing. Others have described them as a mix of Origin and Necrophagist, a fine summation of their basic style. Still, Brain Drill are a bit more meat and potatoes than those bands, less interested in atmosphere than Origin or leadwork than Necrophagist, and are more focused on simply cranking out the wild riffs. That said, the musicianship is beyond insane, even by the incredibly high standards of tech-metal. The speed and precision of guitarwork is flatly ludicrous particularly considering the endless sweeping and tapping, and the blast beats are as fast and fierce as any you'll hear. (Yeah, Marco does use an electronic kit, but considering how produced most DM drumming is it doesn't make a practical difference when it comes to sound.) The vox are another plus, mainly because they don't foolishly try and have them keep up with the instruments as too many speedy bands do, but instead let the vox lazily lag behind. Best of all, this album is just fun. Though it's hard to put your finger on why, some tech albums are a little lifeless. Though every bit as calculated as any other tech release, "Apocalyptic Feasting" somehow manages to channel the unpretentious brutality of old-school death metal. This is a rare thing in modern DM and to combine this with such top-notch musicianship is doubly impressive. Check it out.

HOLY CRIPES!!! - or is that UNHOLY CRIPES!!!

I listened to the first sample of this on Amazon and all I have to say
is that I have never heard anything faster and that "I can not wait to
see a DVD by these guys" because I want to see that drummer in action.

As a friend of mine used to say:

'This is music to murder your parents to'

But he was joking of course - and I though Cannibal Corpse were good
but I still like the 'Kill' CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars yikes, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Apocalyptic Feasting (Audio CD)
Anyone who loves death metal, likes some death metal, or hates death metal should probably pick up this album. Any hype you have heard over this band is well deserved. Its almost hard to believe that these guys can play so blindingly fast with such precision. The drummer is probably the fastest you'll ever hear, the guitar riffs are very unique and go well with the whole album, and the bass player manages to keep up with what the other guys are doing with an 8 finger tapping technique (and yes he finger picks). I might even venture to say that this is one of my new favorite albums. Even if you don't like death metal much, you will appreciate the musicianship on this album. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars ferociously fast and technical death grind, January 24, 2010

This band blazes through songs at insane speeds. Certainly not music for the masses. For fans of Origin, Nile, Necrophagist, etc. Very technical and thoroughly enjoyable. Especially if you are into flesh eating zombies and fantasizing the Apocolypse.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars just on musicianship alone, April 16, 2008
This review is from: Apocalyptic Feasting (Audio CD)
Not sure if there are songs here...but good lord the guitar, bass and drum work are almost beyond belief........Technical is an understatement with these guys......Think Yngwie or Rusty Cooley type solo's at all times, non stop, tuned down and never ending, by every member of the band.
I personally on a song level enjoy things like Skinlab, and their new SkinnedAlive live CD is a must buy.
