A few quick disclaimers: First, I don't know the author, so this is totally unbiased. Second, this is a self published book. I know all the social stigma: "oh no, it's a vanity press", "guess the major publishers didn't want it", and whatnot. Yes, Booklocker is a print on demand service, and yes this book does cost almost three times what you'd pay for a mass market paperback.

But it's worth it.

The story has already been summarized here and on Booklocker's site, so I won't rehash it again. I'll start by saying that I bought this on a whim after reading the summary and thinking it sounded like a neat idea. The plot is very well crafted, with some nice surprises and very well explained science behind the fiction, and several situations and pieces of dialog that had me laughing out loud. Every question I had and everything that struck me as odd was answered (usually resulting in me saying "Ohhh! cool!").

The characters are believable and likable, even some of the minor ones that you don't see for very long. Even some of the main villains, with all their faults, have a sense of honor about them that makes them interesting. I found the story to be a page turner from the beginning. The book starts as an interesting view into the lives of several people and quickly turns into a stirring, patriotic tale of a colony desperate for its independence, a conflict that leaves more than one person stuck trying to figure out which side they belong on. Somewhere around the halfway point the story turns into a roller coaster of a battle that made it tough to put it down. When you find yourself turning pages at 3am trying to finish "just one more chapter", you know you've found a good book.

To make a long review short (too late), this is a good novel, a fun read, and definitely worth the price of admission. I'd put it on my list of favorite sci-fi books without hesitation.

I just finished reading Apollo Main a few days ago. I really enjoyed it. Of course, I am somewhat biased, since Kenny is a good friend of mine from UCLA. Anyway, even without the bias I think this is a fun book about the moon civilization and its struggle for independence against the people of Earth.

Intricate, climactic battle at the end will keep you up late when you're reading the last 150 pages or so.
