The most successful single from the 1984 album, Sex Shooter, only reached #85 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart - the other single, Blue Limousine, failed to chart - but there continues to be interest in this release from fans of Prince and those who collect 1980s memorabilia.

The trio includes two members of Vanity 6 - Brenda Bennett and Susan Moonsie - and Patricia "Apollonia" Kotero, who took the place of Denise "Vanity" Matthews in the (renamed) group and in a major role for the movie, Purple Rain. Sex Shooter was performed in the movie and the album has seven total tracks that clock in at a skimpy 34:05.

That a CD version of the album has yet to be released in the United States is surprising, though, since the variety of Prince projects - especially those surrounding Purple Rain - had a major pop culture significance, no matter the total number of units sold at record shops.

Why is this album not yet avalible on CD? This awesome album must be released in compact disc format! I have heard the hit from this album, "Sex Shooter" a few times on the radio, and I must say that it has stood up very well more than 20 years after it's release in 1984. I love the hook of "Sex Shooter." "I'm a sex shooter, shooting love in your direction. I'm a sex shooter, come & play with affection. Ohhhh, Oh!." The rest of the album is just as good and is highly recommended Prince fans and lovers of sensual/sexual/erotic music.

Apollonia 6 is the group that rose from the Vanity 6 Ashes. With Vanity departing after cutting a few demos and reading for her part in "Purple Rain", Prince quickly had to find a replacement and that's when Apollonia came in. This album is a great piece of work, but didn't do as well as it should've. It has been rumored that Prince lost interest half way through the project as Apollonia did not want to pursue the group, agreeing to cut only one album. This album has a little more focus than the Vanity 6 Project. Apollonia sings only on 2 tracks and talks on one (Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian,Sex Shooter, In a Spanish Villa). Susan has one track (Ooh She She Wa Wa) and Brenda cut 3 solos on the project (Blue Limousine, A Million Miles, Some Kind of Lover). Prince wrote and produced the entire project, giving the credits to the members, Shelia E, Wendy, as well as his fictitious Starr Company. The hype surrounding this album is perhaps the songs that didn't make the cut (The Glamorous Life to be recorded by Shelia E, Manic Monday to be recorded by the Bangles, 17 Days to be used as a Prince B side). Who knows what success they would have had if the songs had made the cut. Videos were supposed to be shot for all of the songs on the album but that was scrapped as well(Probably because of Prince losing interest in the project). Sex Shooter was the only video to be released, while Blue Limousine went virtually unnoticed. A mini film "Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian" was shot with backing videos for Sex Shooter, Ooh She She Wa Wa, Blue Limousine and Happy Birthday, Mr. Christian. The Project was scrapped and never saw a proper release. (You can find the video on YouTube) In my opinion, The strongest tracks were Brenda's. They truly showed her talent and her smokey voice seduced the beats.Read more ›

Although this was a hot Pop/Rock album it still wasn't everything it could've been. It falls short only because it's so limited, It's only 7n songs long. It's actually more of an EP. Yet and still Appollonia's vocal performance was so much better than Vanity's. I'm kind of glad vanity hit the road, She was drop dead gorgeous and wonderful sight to see on screen but at the end of the day, I like music and the way you look can't substitute the fact that you can't sing. Vanity had her moments on songs like "He's So Dull", I loved that music video lol and the song was just so much fun to sing along to. I still play that song out today. "If A Girl Calls (Don't Answer)" was fun and entertaining, It was another one of Vanity's conversational pieces so It didn't take much vocal ability but was still enjoyable.

Alongside the fact that Appollonia's vocal skills were somewhat better than Vanity's the music was also much better aswell (in my opinion). Appollonia took over when the 80's pop sound was beginning to be more distinctive so that add's more points to Appollonia's release. It's funny how both Vanity and Appollonia sound very close, The only difference is that Appollonia sings more on key.

The only songs I don't like about this release are the two songs "In A Spanish Villa" and "A Million Times (I Love You)" and how short the record is. Other than that everything else is good for me. Many people fell in love with these two women based on their look which lead to much acception of their music. There were a great many tragic moments in Vanity's vocal's that were overlooked because of her appearrance. Appollonia wasn't too far from Vanity but she had a little more to offer vocally and in dance moves. "Happy Birthday Mr. Christian" "Sex Shooter" and "Blue Limosine" are all hot and flashy 80's pop tracks. I had to have them on my iPod, Especially "Happy Birthday". GIT IT!

Why isn't there a CD version of this album. If were released and priced just right, I would buy it and add it to my CD collection. The album is better than Vanity 6's album hands down. They should release a CD version and a CD/DVD combo(this one would include the music videos to every song on the album. I don't know about you guys but I would pay at most $25 dollars for the CD/DVD combo. This album is worth every penney.
