Record of the year!!!!!!!, December 21, 1998

Rarely am I completely moved by new music (I usually reserve such emotions for pieces that I have spent some time with). The last piece I can think of is "The Protecting Veil" by Tavener. "Apologentica" by Daniel Lentz is also such a pleasure. Scored for mix chorus, string ensemble, midi keyboards and midi percussion; the 14 short pieces and lush and interesting. Accessible enough for the novice and deep enough for the hardened listener. And, the text is in English. Buy it for a friend. It's my gift of choice this holiday season.

Apologetica is a beautiful work, almost too much so. I bought the CD after reading a review of it in the Village Voice. The critic was right on this one. It deservesthe 5 stars the Voice gave it. Definitely the CD of that year... 1998.
