Wow,

Its rare this day in age when a band actually standsout and grabs me. There seems to be an almost over saturation of bands popping out of the woodworks. Either jumping onto a bandwagon or trying to break a mold. Miss May I is one of those that seems to be able to incorporate a perfect blend of everything thats hot, on down to the myspace only cover of Savage's Swing. (which sounds great both in recorded form and live). Its kind of funny to me that almost every review out here so far has called them Screamo and has compared em to TDWP and other newer acts as if they are the standard. Try picking up some real metal like Darkest Hour - Sadist Nation record and hear where the real influince comes from. Does this record make you wanna headbang? Yes. Two Step? Yes. Air Guitar Sweeping Solos? Yes. Simply put, this record has it all. Metal heads, Metal Core kids, Scenesters...whatever. Do yourself a service and pick this up!

Excellent debut from young guys with potential,

This album exhibits the key ingredients of metalcore/melodic hardcore that have become familiar to fans -- a growling vocalist, a screaming vocalist, downtuned riffing, breakdowns, double-bass drumming. It's not really innovative. But it is GOOD. The vocals are more understandable than many in the genre, which I find welcome. Unfortunately the lyrics are pretty incomprehensible even after you know what they are saying (CD includes lyric sheet also). Drummer is unimaginative but technically very strong. Some of these tracks are really catchy and others are so-so, but I don't think any of them are bad. I would give it 3.5 stars, but since that's not an option I had to decide between rounding up or down. I rounded up to 4 stars because this is their debut album and these guys show a lot of technical ability and artistry. More melodic than Alesana, more brutal than Killswitch Engage. A very good album overall and a great start.

These guys are absolutely incredible. Everything from the melodic vocals which I find myself singing all the time and the brutal vocals which I find myself growling and screaming all the time are totally on point. The instrumentals are also as brutal and heavy as can be but maintain a cohesiveness and intelligible composition. Awesome guitars with both melodic and heavy parts that maintain the spirit of american metal which I love. If you enjoy drummers who seem possessed by satan on crystal meth then you will love MMIs drumming. I really hope they maintain the lineup they had on this album because this album is NEAR METAL PERFECTION. I cant stop listening to this band, my fair warning to you.

i've had this album for awhile now, so i feel i can finally make a review. i dont like to rant and rave on anything really, specially reviews. so i will make this short and simple. for a 1st album, this is definitely one of the best ive ever heard. i can actually listen and get into every single song, the entire album. this is still my #1 listened to album that i own, i cant get enough of it. i will admit their 2nd album is a downstep, but how can you top this one? if you havent purchased it yet and are looking for some new material, do it.

A BREAKTHROUGH IN MUSIC!,
This review is from: Apologies Are for the Weak (Audio CD)
Finally, something i can listen to over and over again and everytime it just keeps getting better and better! Heavy music to fill your soul, the vocals are great, the drums and guitars are great, the lyrics.....well they're still above average! THIS ALBUM ROCKS MY SOCKS OFF! LOVE IT & I HIGHLY recommenced it to fans of Asking Alexandria, as that's how i found out about these guys on youtube. Too bad their new album Monument is less impressive though. This album will stay in my head forever

Miss May I "Apologies Are For The Weak",
This review is from: Apologies Are For The Weak (MP3 Download)
Yep, Rise Records has managed to put out yet another instant classic in the metalcore genre. Brutal breakdowns (I mean, brutal), pumping double bass, and heavy metal riffs.I have a question. Remember when you first started to get into this kind of music? Who exactly was at the top of the genre? For me, it was The Devil Wears Prada (Who continues to make good music) and Drop Dead Gorgeous (Who does not). Well over the years its changed from this to that, most recently being A Day To Remember and Attack!Attack!(Who suck live, btw). Well, to me at least, the reason Miss May I gets compared to TDWP and others is because they almost seem destined to take that spot over. That being said, they sound nothing like any of the bands mentioned above. Miss May I take a much more meat-and-bones strict metalcore approach to their writing style. They strongly make me think of Sea Of Treachery. Thats probably the best band to compare them to

Screamo With Potential,

This review is from: Apologies Are for the Weak (Audio CD)
I can actually listen to this cd all the way through without skipping songs. It's rare for me to be able to do that with scremo. I don't listen to screamo that often, but I like Miss May I. I think If you like The Devil Wears Prada and Underoath you'll like Miss May I. This cd yells out to me screamo until the day you die, and nothing less great breakdowns Apologies Are For The Weak is straight up brutal screamo. My favorite songs on Apologies Are For The Weak are: 1. A Dance With Aera Cura 2. Not Our Tomorrow 3. Apologies Are For The Weak 4. Tides 5. Blessing With A Curse

Do yourself a favor and grab this album. It is a great debut album from a great upcoming band. The songs are heavy yet catchy. The riffs are great. The vocals (screams) are amazing and so is the drumming.I can't believe people are comparing these guys to The Devil Wears Prada and the like. This band is good. Those bands are not. They are definitely not screamo, emo, or any of that garbage. I look forward to seeing/hearing these guys evolve. I won't say too much. Just preview the tracks and buy the album if you like heavy music. Then be sure to not classify these guys as emo/screamo. ;) |
