Small Town Horror With A Twist,
By Louis N. Gruber "Author of Jay" (Lexington, SC United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: My Apologies, Mr. Poe & Other Stories That Chill Your Soul (Paperback)
Twenty-three delightful little horror tales, most not more than two or three pages in length. Lonely little girls, priceless dolls, elderly spinsters, pompous salesmen, murderous little old ladies, and space aliens who give helpful lectures to dogs. A typical range of small town characters, wouldn't you say? All written in the same homey, down-to-earth small town style.
Author Grace Looper offers homage to Edgar Allen Poe, and her stories are somewhat Poe-like, except that, as far as I know, Poe didn't have a sense of humor. Poe was relentlessly morbid, whereas Looper displays a sly wit even as her stories end in one kind of horrifying twist or another. "My Apologies, Mr. Poe..." is a quick and fun read, and I recommend it without hesitation. You will love it. Reviewed by Louis N. Gruber. |
