The software is a little more robust and easy to use.

The drives were being run hot under load and there are no active cooling for the amount of heat generated by this unit.

First of all. The manual on the included disk is incorrect. The Android app needed for cell phone viewing is called "SuperLivePro" made by Peng Antai. It says this on the Aposonic website.

The Android APP is the best part about this DVR. Unlike the others I have owned, I can go through what it has recorded in the past directly from the APP.

This is my fourth DVR in five years for my CCTV system. With this one, I finally found one that I really like. I installed a Western Digital Green 2 terabyte hard drive in it. The instructions were a little vague on how to mount the hard drive into the case. I expected it to use rails like other DVR's. But this one is much more simple than that. The mounting screws go up through the bottom of the DVR case and screw directly into the holes along the bottom side of the hard drive.

As one can expect with these Chinese DVR's, setup can be a headache. The instructions are English that was poorly translated from Chinese. The menu system in the DVR is done in a similar manner. I still don't know what some of the stuff in the menu and instructions does or means. This is my fourth time setting up one of these things and it still took me three hours of trial and error plugging in different bits of info to get all of the features working properly.

Overall, I recommend it. It does have a steep learning curve if you are new to these things. But only because the instructions are hard to decipher.

This is my first DVR, I'm familiar with CCTV systems so this was, for me, a good purchase seeing as it had 16 channels. When it arrived, and I started setting it up, installing the SATA Drive (you can mount two, has the cables and power for two), the drives mount (screws included) to the floor of the case with the perfectly aligned holes on both sides, doesn't matter which side or SATA slot. If you've added a hard drive to a computer, you'll need no instructions.

Next plugged in a monitor to the VGA, and installed the mouse (that comes with), it beeps, starts and load the setup wizard, I added a static IP address to my home network, I then checked the option to disable the setup wizard on start-up highly recommended this. Rebooted the unit connected it to the network and carried on configuring from my computer browser (IE11 and Chrome both work). Logged in as admin and continued with the setup. I setup the remote access (based on one of the previous reviewers advice) with the IOS app of "SuperLive Pro" great app and it's free!! I then registered a free account with "No-IP.com" for my system and now I can login using a DNS name that is updated every time my computer is switched on. For the firewall, all you need to do is setup the Web port (do not use the default of 80 as this is used by many other services) and then use your firewall (can't help you there) to that web port, you will also need to create another port forward rule for the server services too. With this you'll have external access from your device.

Features, it's got them, first off all, this system automatically records as soon as a feed is detected, it starts recording when a camera is connected and if you have a hard drive, all you'll need to focus on is the record options for motion and sensor.

The biggest data spec missing from everywhere you look is regarding the D1 recording. This DVR can record D1 on *all* channels at 7 frames per second. Dont buy into the "real time" stuff - nothing security wise is going to happen that you will need 30fps for unless you are watching card games. Your NOT trying to win Cannes. :) Independently adjusatable bit rate, quality, and recording resolution - so if you want some channels D1 at 30FPS you can do it. Each frame pulls from an avalable number - and you can spread the total frame rate out however you like. Hard drive installation is easy. I feel this DVR has every feature you could want at home, and would work equally well in the vast majority of business. Hope this helps - dont worry, I would absolutely buy this again. I made this purchase after weeks of trying to determine the best DVR to replace my aging AVTECH 787. I have no regrets, this thing seems rock solid with no noticable issues at all. Im currently running most of the channels and have several PTZ cameras connected...Again, no regrets, and if you buy it I dont think you will have any regrets either!

I have been installing CCTV systems for many years and this unit was a rare find for the money. The ease of use was a pleasant surprise and performance was outstanding especially for the cost. I installed a one terabyte hard drive so even with sixteen cameras it will record for many days without rolling over. Also the tech support guy was very helpful and friendly. Overall I like this unit very much.

Excellent product for the price. Very happy being able to attach an LCD/LED/Plasma TV via HDMI and get a very clear live view of the cameras. The web interface is nice, and fairly easy to figure out. The smartphone software is excellent, though I wouldn't suggest anyone spend much time at all with their smartphone viewing the video, as video streaming drains batteries, fast! Many other nice features, all at a price that's very hard to beat.
