Unfortunately, there seem to be two categories of churches these days: those where people mindlessly repeat the creed each week and those where the creed is mostly ignored. Both are tragic, especially in light of how many so-called evangelicals can't discuss even the most basic of Christian doctrines. This book provides a good answer to both groups, concisely explaining the meaning, origin, and contemporary relevance of the Creed.

If you're wondering "why would I care about a man-made document written thousands of years ago?", or if you come from a low church background where the creed wasn't taught or used, or if you have been saying the creed for so many years that you've ceased to think about what it means, then this is a good place to start.

This book is concise enough to read in a few hours, avoids the technicalities and jargon that so often trip up laymen, and will give you a good overview. I've been a Christian for quite a few years and considered myself very familiar with the Creed and I still found this book helpful. Definitely worth reading.

The Apostles' Creed was not a part of my early years of religious training. I learned it after I married a Methodist pastor. However, the phrases continue to amaze me. Getting to the original meaning of the Creed, and studying its development, was a blessing for me. This is a good book for those in which The Apostles' Creed is a part of worship.
