Romantic tensions and courtly intrigue build up in Beazol!, January 17, 2010
This review is from: Apothecarius Argentum Vol. 8 (Paperback)
Apothecarius Argentum always had a lot of intrigue and cliffhangers where the characters are in mortal peril, but this volume (8) ups the notch more than usual. It's a shoujo manga, but with large doses of political intrigue. This volume focuses more on the political aspects than on the romance, but it's all good in deepening the plot and creating conflict for the love triangle of Argent-Primula-Lorca. Lorca is older (and bigger) in this volume. With the upcoming political marriage between Princess Primula and Prince Lorca amid the sinister plots to overthrow kings of various countries, there's a lot of tension going on.
Apothecarius Argentum is not your run-of-the-mill shoujo manga. No starry-eyed high school girls waiting for their prince to rescue them. The story is intelligent, and has believable and strong characters that the reader can empathize with. It's my new favorite shoujo manga in a looong time.
