First of all, buyers should know that this comforter is actually packaged as the Charter Club Appalachian II. Charter Club is a high quality (if not quite top-of-the-line) store brand from Macy's, and the Appalachian II is one of their discontinued items (it's not clear why). Though Amazon does not mention it, the packaging describes the comforter as "light weight," with the further description as follows: "Ideal for summertime, warm climates, and those who prefer light coverage at night."Upon seeing that, I was disappointed, and annoyed that Amazon's listing didn't provide this information. But before sending it back, I decided to give it a try, and after using it for a couple of weeks, I have to admit that I'm impressed with the warmth it generates. I sleep in an unheated converted third floor bedroom in Portland, OR, where winter temperatures have been dipping into the upper 20s, but paired with flannel sheets and a mid-weight blanket, this comforter has been more than warm enough. I don't think I've turned the space heater on since I bought it. It's likely not warm enough for Vermont or Minnesota, but it's fine for winter in Portland, and anything warmer would be too much for most of the year. The construction also seems to be of good quality, and although Amazon doesn't mention it, the package says it is machine washable (in a commercial machine) and filled with hypo-allergenic EcoDown (standard on qood quality comforters, but not universal). All in all, it really seems like a very good comforter, and at the price I paid ($59 on Amazon), it is an absolute steal. I looked around quite a bit, and couldn't find anything remotely comparable for less than twice the price. Four stars for quality and warmth, and a fifth for value.

A very good comforter for the price!,

We've had experiences with several other down comforters around this price point (~$60.00), and this is by far the best of them! We purchased two, one for ourselves and one as a gift, and now we're going to purchase another for ourselves. Initially, the down is somewhat packed, but after a couple of weeks, it fluffs out nicely and is amazingly comfortable. After a few months of daily use, there is no signs of loss of filling, discoloring of the comforter, or any other negatives with less expensive down comforters. Easily a 5 star rating!

Soft and comfy,
This review is from: Appalachian 300-Thread-Count King White Down Comforter (Kitchen)
This comforter is my first down comforter and I am happy! The fabric is a little stiff but put inside my duvet it doesn't make a difference. I have yet to see ANY feathers anywhere outside the comforter. Even being a lightweight comforter it is still nice and warm and fluffy. No bad smells when opened.

Okay comforter for the price,
This review is from: Appalachian 300-Thread-Count White Down Comforter (Kitchen)
The comforter is a little lighter than I had hoped, but then again it was advertised as light weight. It seems like decent quality. The biggest concern is that the comforter bag that it came in has the "goose" part whited out. It reads "white ____ down comforter." I'm not sure why they whited out the goose part, my only guess is that they could not guarantee that it was goose down. I feel like I overpaid a little for what I received.

Pleasantly Surprised!,

I did a lot of searching online for a down comforter. I recently went from a Queen to a King bed and had a goose down comforter for the Queen bed. Have used them for years since living in Europe. This comforter comes out of the packaging a bit flat..as expected. I took it outside and shook it out to fluff it. The important thing to me was that it not be too warm since I was going to put it into a silk duvet cover that would add an additional two layers. I live at the beach in Carlsbad California. We have chilly ocean nights, and very moderate days. This comforter is just right for those chilly nights. It would not be warm enough for Alaska, Maine, or any of the states that get down to single digits or below. But for most of the country it is a good value and a comfortable lightweight way to stay cozy. Debra

I bought this as a supplement to our current bedspread for the winter. For the price and size it was well worth it as it made our bed coverings feel nice an heavy but with a fluffyness feel. Im hoping to keep it on year round as its light enough to use in the summer if we get rid of our current bedspread. My only qualm about it is that it was lighter than what i was anticipating but we seemed to have made it work.

Nice down comforter,

This is a very nice down comforter. I have a queen size bed but ordered the king size comforter. I like more material on each side of my bed, though since it does hang over the feathers do clump towards the ends. Though it's not a problem as long as every so often I shake out the comforter.

Beware - not as pictured,

The comforter I received must have been a reject. It was king size and while some squares were filled well with down, many were not. The center squares going down the center of the bed from the head to the foot of bed, and the ones around the side and bottom of the bed were all nicely filled, but the the squares that covered both sleepers were completely flat - hardly any down at all. It didn't keep us as warm as we had hoped and made for a very lumpy and uneven looking bed. If all the squares had been evenly filled, I could have given it a five-star review. If you order, check it out well before using it and send it back if you find uneven filling of the squares. As for me, I will go back to The Company Store for down comforters. They have always rated 5-stars.

I received recently and upon opening it - it smelled a bit damp and somewhat funky so I immediately washed it. The bag says wash in commercial washer but the comforter says dry clean only - I washed it in my regular washer and it came out fine. It smells better now. We've been having some really cold days and the comforter does keep you warm. It's so ligthweight as well which is quite nice. For the price - you get great quality. My only advice is to get the king size if you have a queen bed. The kind fit perfectly on my bed with very little lay over. I thought it would be much bigger but it's the perfect size for my queen bed. It's also nice in that you could put in a duvet cover as well. I love it - great bargain!

I ordered this to take to our cabin in northern MN to replace the three blankets we were currently using. At first I didn't think it would be warm enough because it seemed so thin when I took it out. I shook it a couple of times and it plumped up to where I had to work at stuffing it into a duvet. Not only was it warm enough, it was almost too warm. The first night we used it the temperatures got down to - 15 degrees. The cabin is heated, but I know we would not have been as comfortable without it. The quality is great and as good as other comforters I own that cost triple. I recognized the brand from a major department store we used to have here in MN that is now Macy's. The price is quite a bit less than what I would have had to pay there.
