5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a way to show friends and family what the AT means to me.
Thank you Mark for making this DVD! Since thru-hiking the AT I have tried, in vain, to explain what my hike was like. The beautiful views, the lung busting hiking, the silly traditions, and the unforgetable people. I have shared your DVD with my family and friends. They seem to understand just a little more, what I've been talking about all this time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disk 2 would not play
Was so looking forward to receiving this because of the great reviews. Watched disk 1 and couldn't wait to see the second half of the AT on disk 2. Unfortunately, disk 2 will not play in the DVD player. Tested it on another player, and it would not play there either. Returned it to Amazon. Not sure if I should order another one because I am concerned that there might be a...

Your camera work really shows off the beauty of the Appalachians. When you focus on a specific section of the AT, I'm taken back to the day when I was hiking that section. I was also surprise to learn more of the history behind the AT. I thought I know it all already. Thanks again Mark Flagler,

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for family viewing. Professionally narrated. Exellent!, January 23, 2006

I just finished watching this 2 dvd set. I give it my highest rating. I've seen "Trek", "Walk for Freedom", "2000 Miles to Main". Each has their appeal. This is a bit different. Unlike the others this DVD is professionally narrated. There are better explanations of what you are seeing through the camera. Also you get excellent well balanced comments from hikers all through the trail. Best of all. No profanity. So I recommend it for family viewing unike "Trek" and "Walk for Freedom". Good job Flagler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great AT film!, September 7, 2005
This review is from: Appalachian Impressions (DVD)
If you're looking for the best all-around Appalachian Trail documentary, you've just found it! I've read several AT books and biographies, seen practically every other documentary on the trail, and walked the length of the AT - this film is the single best source of info on the AT short of firsthand experience. Mark does a great job of showing the trail from several perspectives, and keeps it interesting along the way! Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars This DVD will make you want to pack up and head to the trail!, July 31, 2007
This review is from: Appalachian Impressions (DVD)
I am planning to start section hiking the A.T. I bought this DVD so that I could get a perspective of the terrain and what other hikers' experiences were. I popped it in the player just as soon as it arrived and I was ready to hit the trail after watching it. I can't hardly wait now, but I guess I better get my gear together first. I liked the way the DVD was professionally produced, and the fact that you can select a section of the trail from the menu without searching through the DVD if you want to review a certain part. I was apprehensive in spending the extra money for this documentary, but the other reviews encouraged me to splurge. Glad I did!

I've just seen the first disc at a friend's house, but I was delighted by the indepth explanation of not only the process of preparing and hiking the trail, but the traditions and culture of thru hiking the AT.

Most of my hiking experience is out west with splashes throughout the southeast, but after seeing this portion of "Appalachian Impressions", I am quite curious about thru hiking the AT.

Excellent (and appropriate) for all age groups. Decipherable and informative, while entertaining. The host shows an obvious love of the trail and an enthusiasm for sharing it with others. Overall, my "Impression" of this documentary is one of professionalism and gusto that was certainly worth my time!

Since buying this DVD set I have watched it twice. I've never hiked the AT but am tentatively making plans to do so within the next couple of years. I would like to thru hike and these videos are the "carrot on a stick" that just might push me to do it.

By far the best doc every made of the trail. It covers points of views, lifestyles, obstacles to over come, gear, what to eat and so much more. It offers a real insight to a hikers life style no matter your experience of hiking. A real must if you've ever hiked any part of the Appalachian Trail and an absolute if you or someone you know has hiked the entire 2172 mile trek from Georgia to Maine.

I first caught the second half of this documentary (?) on a local TV station and I immediately bought the DVD set. I am a day hiker and have read a few AT books, but this was the first time I watched a documentary from a real thru-hiker's point of view. I liked it. I agree with other reviewers, this one is very professionally made. However, maybe it is because I am too interested in the subject, I felt like it could have been longer -- it certainly did not fill up each DVD. Maybe adding another 20 minutes to both halves would be nice. Overall, good job! Now if Mark can do the Pacific Crest and Continental Divide (we know you are reading these reviews, Mark!) ... perhaps I am being too harsh giving it a 4 star (I would give 4 and half), but I will give a 5 if Mark does the other two long distance trails :-)

We've hiked over 600 miles of the AT, south from Springer to Virginia. I felt like we were hiking along on the part we have already seen, and it made me even more anxious to see the other 1500 miles. Very well done.
