A very good representation of this genre of music,

This review is from: Appalachian and Irish Tunes on Hammer Dulcimer (Audio CD)
Having been bred on rock n' roll through most of my life, I am uncertain why I am drawn so inexorably toward this type of music. It must be due, in part, to the inherantly sweet sound of the dulcimer. It is played nicely here in conjunction with other instruments such as the fiddle, banjo, etc. and acts as a nice compliment to all of them. There is nothing profound here. It is merely good, early American music showing well its Celtic roots. It'svery soft, sweet and soothing and, even in its livelier moments, quite relaxed. Some of the tunes, such as Lochaber No More, are rather touching. If you fight traffic to and from work each day, or experience other tentions, this can be a soothing antidote.

This review is from: Appalachian and Irish Tunes on Hammer Dulcimer (Audio CD)
At a function to showcase our high school choir, a gentleman was introduced who would play the hammer dulcimer to accompany the kids as they sang. I absolutely loved the music. So I came home that night, went straight to Amazon and started looking for dulcimer music, reading reviews and sampling songs. I ended up buying this CD and wasn't disappointed. There is a nice blending of instruments while showcasing the lighthearted dancing notes of the dulcimer. I love playing this CD in my classroom as the kids invariably mock the music at first, then ask to hear it again when the CD finishes. And as another reviewer said, it's a nice bit of music to drive home to.
