Words simply cannot do justice to beautiful, music...This cd combines the incredible sounds of God's creations with that of beautiful, moving music. This is my favorite of the many, many cd's I enjoy when I want to relax and move into a quieter, gentler world. I truly cherish this CD.

Great Compilation of Nature and Music!,

This cd is one of those cd's that takes me away to the actual mountains. The music is just plain nice and the nature sounds enhances the gentle mood. If you love listening to the sounds of nature, this CD is for you. You feel as if you're sitting on a rock near a stream or hiking through the woods, and camping at night near a fire. The sounds of birds, crickets, water, frogs, loons, and fire makes this cd something to consider. A fine addition to the Dan Gibson Solitudes collection. Listen to the samples and decide.

The Dan Gibson series of nature sounds, bird song and various
instruments such as piano, harp, violin, guitar, etc. are one of the best I have ever listened to. They are relaxing, renewing and healing and one never tires of listening to them. I have used them in writing classes at the university level while students work on essays and they were well received. Healers will find these useful in their clinics. The Gibson CDs are also good for light meditation background music. If you love birds, healing music, and nature, then this CD as others in the Gibson collection is worth the purchase. Enjoy and relax.

This is a CD I was anxious to receive since I heard it on pandora.
Amazon.com - in spite of 100s of orders since my address change 9 (NINE) years ago - TO MY CURRENT ADDRESS - regurgitated my OLD address and caused (1) ME concern PLUS (2) SELLER, who received the book returned! SELLER was most cooperative as we connected - IN SPITE OF lack of help from amazon.com to re-send the book to me, which I tremendously appreciated! WONDERFUL PROFESSIONALISM!!

Appalachian Mountain Suite - This is a must for those who enjoy nature sounds mixed with music. I find this arrangement particularly relaxing. If you like screaming metal, this is not for you, but if you like instrumental music you can listen to all day, you ought to listen to this CD

The Third Sound,

"Heterogeneous ideas yoked together by violence." This famous phrase by Samuel Johnson describes the effect we get when we co-mingle discordant artistic expressions, in this case, sqawking sounds and gentle music.
In this CD, the discord is subdued, the yoke modulated, and the end product is a subliminal theme which transcends the two original threads. This third theme emerges like a blossoming rose in slow motion. The overall arrangement of the CD appears to be a diurnal cycle, beginning with a sunrise and ending with the next sunrise. A crackling campfire begins late in the evening accompanied by a soft guitar. No human voices can be heard, but there are plenty of owls, loons, robins, squawking hawks, chirping crickets, croaking frogs, and many others. Near the end, we hear the third motif as a deep throated fog horn echoes off a distant mountain. No doubt this is a blast from a large cargo ship as it moves through a dangerous fog. This, in turn, inspires an energetic resurgence of the leitmotif. If you listen closely, you will sense how this horn's violent sound "yokes" the whole album together. One aspect of this and other albums by Dan Gibson is his use of the songs by the Brown Wood Thrush. The thrush is similar to the robin, but seems to be a shy bird who secludes himself in the trees where he sings eight distinctly different songs never in the same sequence. It is actually the only bird that can do this routine. Walt Whitman deliberately mentioned the bird in his elegy for Abe Lincoln,"When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed. In the parks near my home, I have located five places where the wood thrushes sing this song, sometimes in response to each other. Gibson preserved some the best singing on this and other albums. See The Classics "Solitudes" 1991. Once you catch the tunes, you know them instantly, but the sound is impossible to duplicate on an instrument, I am sure. Album sounds best at about 2:30 A.M. under a full moon of course. Great CD.

Awful CD,
By NE (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Appalachian Mountain Suite (Audio CD)
This CD has seven tracks, six of which use an identical music theme. It's a melachony tune using synthetic sounds. I was so disappointed. I'd really, really have to like the theme in order to be satisfied hearing it six times over.
The little bit of birds and water are so overpowered by the music that it really doesn't seem right to categorize it as an couldn't get through even one complete track. Do yourself a favor and make sure you sample it before you buy. My computer won't play the amazon music samples so I bought it based off of positive ratings. For me a complete waste of money. I'll mail it to you for free just to get it off my shelf. |
