Must have for Appalachian trail hikers,

This review is from: Appalachian Trail Data Book 2009 (Paperback)
This book is a life saver on the trail, it lets you know where you can get water, shelter, cross roads, etc. It also lets you know how far away some of these sources are away from the trail so you dont start off on a 2 mile trek to fill up a half empty water bottle. If you are hiking the trail this thing is better than a map.

I recommend buying the Companion or Appalachian Pages instead. Appalachian Pages seemed to be the most popular this summer. I saw several folks carry the whole books, but most folks either tore books into sections and mailed the proper sections to them selves. Shelter and town descriptions is worth "upgrading" to the Companion. Appalachian Pages has very nice elevation profiles on the page which are helpful.
