THRILLING WESTERN AND JAZZ-INSPIRED MUSIC FOR A MODERN CLASSIC!,

Jeff Beal's score for "Appaloosa" is at once exciting, and at times emotional, helping to set the tone for Ed Harris' adaptation of Robert B. Parker's bestselling novel. Beal is definitely inspired by the traditional music from the western genre, and his score for the film has plenty of traditionally-inspired pieces. At the same time, a number of pieces are definitely more jazz oriented, and while it is different for the western film, it definitely fits the mood and tone of the movie. The CD concludes with two songs. "You'll Never Leave my Heart," a song co-written by Beal and Ed Harris, which is sung by none other than Harris himself, is a beautiful, evocative song that truly captures the essence of his character's feelings in the film. The second, "Ain't Nothin' Like a Friend," which is also co-written by Harris, captures the friendship between the main male leads. If you loved the film, then you'll surely enjoy this CD.

Cuts 1 through 22 are simply good listening. The final 2 cuts sum up the movie and are fantastic. If you enjoyed the movie, the soundtrack is a 'must have'.

Appaloosa soundtrack hits its target,

Jeff Beal's score for Appaloosa hits its target. I listened to it before and after seeing the movie and the music does a great job of setting the tone for the picture. Songs that deserve special mention include Dawn in Appaloosa, Riding Into Rio Seco, Hitch Settles a Score, and Riding Off. Not up to the same standard as great Western soundtracks like Silverado, Wyatt Earp, and the Assasination of Jesse James, but still well worth adding to your collection if you love Westerns.

At the end of the Appaloosa Movie, there is a tune from someone that sounds like Tom Petty. I liked it and bought the sound track because I liked that tune. It is not on the sound track. I liked the movie and think that Ed Harris did a good job, but feel cheated that I did not get the whole 'piece of pie'.

Where is the track "Scare Easy" on this music CD?, It's written by Tom Petty, performed by Mudcrutch, in the end credits in the movie. But oh no, not on the soundtrack. You know what I'd like to do with this soundtrack CD if I ever run into someone from Axion Films or New Line Cinema. That goes for the jewel case as well.
