5.0 out of 5 stars His best work to date by far!
This is Gucci 3rd major lable release. He has several mixtapes and 4 albums under Tommy boy records. Out of all of his work this is by far his best. Beats and lyrics are on point threw the whole album. I personaly consider this his "Carter" moment. The cd that re-defines Gucci as a artist and puts him among the best. I know his last album had peoples attention but this...

Gucci Mane's rise to fame was a slow one, but 2009 album The State vs. Radric Davis helped to heighten Mane's profile. 2010's The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted (Explicit) doesn't tamper with the formula of Mane's breakthrough, which is both a blessing and a curse. There are some genuinely superb cuts here ("Little Friend" and "Gucci Time"), but there are also cuts that...

This album slaps.. Every track is on point like a junkie needle. Just when I thought he was getting too commercial he brought it back to the streets on this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid, but Flawed, November 7, 2010
This review is from: The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted (Explicit) (Audio CD)
Gucci Mane's rise to fame was a slow one, but 2009 album The State vs. Radric Davis helped to heighten Mane's profile. 2010's The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted (Explicit) doesn't tamper with the formula of Mane's breakthrough, which is both a blessing and a curse. There are some genuinely superb cuts here ("Little Friend" and "Gucci Time"), but there are also cuts that are merely average or throw aways (the dismal Wyclef Jean feature). Overall, this album is well rounded, though some extra tweaks could have made it even stronger.

'The Appeal' opens with the exceptional cut "Little Friend," featuring Bun B. "Little Friend" features exceptional, `mean' sounding production work from revered urban producer Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. The production work is marked with malicious sounding synthesized brass and sound, pounding drum programming. Here, Gucci is on his game with some exceptional rhymes, not to mention the exceptional hook: "I Came to this country with a dollar and a choppa and a team full of killers, what you mean...I could've been a doctor, should've been a lawyer/I go to court so much I could've been my own employer...(Say hello to my little friend)" Bun B's verse is exceptional too, making him an excellent collaborator for Gucci. Best track of the album.

"Trap Talk" keeps up the momentum with more superb, southern-sounding production work. "Trap Talk" may not ascend as far as "Little Friend," but it is certainly another above-par listen. As always, it is the hooks (and Gucci's signature sound effects) that win over the listener. The same is in effect with "Trap Talk." "Missing" and "What It's Gonna Be" are level pegging - both strong, above-average cuts, though not `the cream of the crop.' Here, the production work is solid and Gucci sounds inspired. The main quibble about these two cuts might be that they are not `first-rate' singles - just solid, above-average cuts.

Two exceptional cuts (in the league with "Little Friend"), "Making Love to Money" and the Justice sampling "Gucci Time" (featuring and produced by Swizz Beatz) proceed next. "Making Love To Money" features a ludicrous, though enjoyable hook while "Gucci Time" clocks in at an incredibly brief 2:54, though packs a massive punch. The hook is simple, but easily one of the most addictive of the album: "Cut the lights off, cut these ______ lights of, all this ice, ain't no need to cut the lights off..." Swizz's verse is ok, but not particularly memorable.

"Party Animal" is solid too, but brings nothing truly new to the table and feels similar to past Gucci Mane cuts. "Remember When," featuring Ray J is enjoyable and solid. Here, Gucci has some great `one-liners.' "Haterade" proves to be the best in this series, featuring Nicki Minaj and Pharrell, who also produces the cut. What makes "Haterade" so effective is the fact that is a different sound for Gucci; he should try more often to differentiate his sound so he doesn't grow `boring.' The rub with Haterade - the length at nearly five minutes is excessive.

"It's Alive," a second Swizz Beatz collaboration is less effective than the first, but still enjoyable. "ODog" featuring Wyclef Jean would have been a track that could have been cut, coming over as lethargic and lengthy in my eyes. "Dollar Sign" provides some redemption with another stupid, yet enjoyable hook. "Brand New" feels `old' by the time it rolls around, bringing no extra excitement to The Appeal by this point. "Weirdo" is a nice enough, featuring strong production by Drumma Boy (think Young Jeezy's The Recession), but closing cut "Grown Man" featuring British songstress Estelle is stronger, though by no means valedictory.

Overall, The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted (Explicit) is a solid follow-up to The State vs. Radric Davis, but it by no means supersedes that album. There are no `big hits' this time around, which hurts this album in my eyes. Additionally, with a sixty-one minute duration, cuts could have been omitted and that alone would have strengthened this album even more. With that said, this is an enjoyable album for the most part and first cut "Little Friend" is one of the best rap tracks of 2010.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gucci's New Sound, Trying To Branch Out, October 29, 2010
This review is from: The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted (Explicit) (Audio CD)
Gucci Mane is still an enigma in the hip hop community. While undoubtedly improving exponentially as a rapper, it seems the better he gets the less publicity and attention he gets. Puzzling, to say the least, but I guess that's how it goes.

Gucci Mane tries to continue the strides he made on the State vs. Radric Davis. Gucci Mane's latest studio album (I've lost count which one this is) The Appeal semi-delivers on all levels but as a whole isn't completely enjoyable. I believe this is an album in which Gucci sees where he wants his music to go but doesn't yet know how to execute that vision.

For example the Zaytoven produced track Missing sounds like it's straight from 2007 off one of his more acclaimed mixtapes as he was climbing to the top. Not a bad song but just not exciting. Then he hooks up with everyone's favorite producer of the moment, Swizz Beatz (although I have no idea why), for Gucci Time and it's by far the worst song on the album and a collaboration that should never happen again. Reminiscent of what Swizz Beatz did for T.I. with Bring Em Out, however this collaboration is lame and unlistenable. They felt the need to try again however on the slightly better It's Alive. The obligatory "love song" Remember When ft. Ray-J is also a lame collaboration mostly because of the content but also because Ray-J has no immediate talent.

However, some of his new sounds he tried on this album worked. Haterade produced by Pharell and featuring Nicki Minaj is one of the standouts of this album. This song just works, with its beat that allows his voice to shine instead of just Gucci on a bass heavy track. Wyclef appears on ODog (yes wannabe President Wyclef) but the track is not the disaster you would expect and actually works decently. The Estelle collaboration Grown Man also works quite well even though sonically it sounds like a T.I. esque inspirational track. Some of his more traditional sounds like Weirdo, Little Friend ft. Bun B, Trap Talk, What Its Gonna Be, and Makin Love To The Money are all bangers.

Overall, this album is an uneven listen but still worth checking out if you are a Gucci Mane fan. 3.5 stars.

I'll admit im not looking for social commentary or enlightenment from a gucci album but seriously...he gets worse every album. I understand him trying to make the trasition from neighborhood to hollywood but it aint working...you cant even clean your car to this garbage..he needs to reevaluate exactly what made him famous before the murder trail and recapture that...Gucci if you read this...STOP IT! If you finished with music then be finished...dont insulte your real fans with this goofy ish man

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful if your into REAL hip hop! stay away! run away!, October 20, 2010
This review is from: The Appeal: Georgia's Most Wanted (Explicit) (Audio CD)
The production is improved from the last incredibly horrible album he released from prison, but this one is Gucci-Gone-Commercial..
He steps out of his realm of underground, trap and talking about material things and just takes one element from that and stretches it (material things)
If you want to hear about the women, car's, cash, and jewelry for over 60 min's this is for you!
If your in it for some decent production, this might also be for you..
But if you want Real Hip Hop or Real rapping on top of production STAY AWAY!
Gucci has been able to recapture what he had when he first came on the rap scene in the mixtape world with good goon like tracks..
He instead jumped in the crowd with Lil Wayne, Baby, Jeezy's, Rick Ross, etc talking about the same ol'e things to try and milk the teet that has already run dry.. *Bling hop* and he doesn't even do that good, between his standard delivery, his ABC/Sesame street rap style, it's no wonder his music has never went gold..
I think this is another failed project and will probably spell doom for someone that had so much hope.
The production he raps over is comparable to the stuff Jeezy and T.I already have been rapping over but he up'd the game a bit working with Pharell and Swiss Beats which may have hurt his craft. You see Gucci isn't known as a great lyricist however those beats expose your vocals a lot more than the loud noisy over bass infused with futuristic and lots of snares and drum's, the reason he got so popular is his ability to get on crafty production that was sorta fresh back in 2005-07 since then it's been recycled and regurgitated on every mixtape and somehow makes it to his albums as well.

This is a plea to save your money, after hearing this album at a listening event i could easily forget it the next day, i saw the ratings here while doing a search for a gucci video and i was amazed at no one pointing out how bad it was.. literally seems like his marketing team made it here as they did for many of the mixtape sites his music has been on.
