Book Description

May 1, 2003
Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame & Fortune: A Guide for Audiences, Contestants & Guests" describes the ways a person can make ticket reservations to be a member of a studio audience, or become a contestant or guest on a show. This book lists over 200 shows in an easy to read, comprehensive format in which a person can see at a glance the ways one can obtain tickets or be a participant on a show by telephone, mail, or website. An important feature of this book is that all tickets are free for the TV shows listed. There is also a rating system that describes the ease with which one can obtain tickets. Studio locations are given, as well as rules and regulations for participation by a contestant or guest. Also included is an easy to use geographic index that can be used for vacation planning."

About the Author

Publication of Lee's first book, "The Celebrity Address Handbook" in 1999 was introduced to the autograph collector. Lee's second book, "The Address Directory of Celebrities in Entertainment, Sports, Business and Politics" in 2000 was published for anyone wishing to contact a celebrity.

Specializing in astronaut signatures, Mr. Ellis decided to turn his interest and knowledge of NASA and the history of human space flight into a third publication. In 2001, "Who Who of NASA Astronauts" was written for the space flight enthusiast.

In 2002, Lee was appointed to the State of Wisconsin Commemorative Quarter Council to select and recommend coin designs to be considered for the Wisconsin Quarter to appear in 2004. Lee plans to use his experience on the Quarter Council to write a future book on US coins.

Mr. Ellis' two latest books deal with entertainment and travel. Mr. Ellis' book, "Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame and Fortune" explains to the reader how to obtain free tickets to be part of the audience of their favorite TV show or to appear as a guest or contestant on a TV show. In Mr. Ellis' other book, "Free Tours, Museums & Sites in America" Mr. Ellis outlines all the free museums, historical and cultural sites and different tours available in America.

Would you like to be in the audience of your favorite TV talk show? It may be that you are a fan of the host or have thought it would be exciting to be on a live set of a TV production stage. Perhaps you have thought about the prize money you could win on games shows like “The Price is Right,” “Jeopardy” or “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.” Or, you may have a personal matter that needs airing out on “The Jerry Springer Show” or Court TV.

Whether you want to be a member of the studio audience, contestant or guest, “Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame, & Fortune: A Guide for Audiences, Contestants & Guests” is for you. This book guides you through the steps to take to appear on TV shows. I have outlined game shows, talk shows, sitcoms and court TV to watch live as a member of the audience or to appear as a contestant or guest.

In the creation of “Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame & Fortune”, I united all the information I could find. My goal was to give you, the reader, the most convenient way to appear on TV shows. Realizing that not everyone has access to the Internet, I have included all possible methods of obtaining tickets for TV shows or appearing as a contestant or guest. I have made acquiring audience tickets, contestant information and studio information available through telephone numbers, regular mail and websites.

The next most important feature of “Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame, & Fortune: A Guide for Audiences, Contestants & Guests” is that all tickets and appearances listed are FREE. Some tickets for such shows as “Saturday Night Live” are in short supply and difficult to obtain. You may know that certain Internet sites make available tickets for these shows in a short time costing around $100.00. Yet with the right planning and the help of this book, you can receive tickets for more than a hundred shows...absolutely free!

Again, the right planning and patience, is often necessary. For instance, tickets for shows such as Rosie O’Donnell are available only in August, and most game shows only admit contestants who haven’t made an appearance on a game show in the previous year. I have included most regulations for game shows, the best times to apply for tickets, and have also included the production seasons. With this information a person can use certain planning strategies for appearing on any show.

So whether you want to watch your favorite host live, have a problem you want to discuss on national television, or are just in it for the money, “Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame, & Fortune” can help you do it. Using the information this book will provide you with, soon you too can be watching yourself on TV. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Choice of Shows, May 18, 2004

This review is from: Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame & Fortune: A Guide for Audiences, Contestants & Guests (Paperback)
I was planning our vacation to Los Angeles when my husband suggested we attend a taping of a TV show. I didn't know where to start looking for information so I went to the main library and asked if they had any books on attending TV shows in LA. I was surprised when they showed me "Appearing on TV Shows for Fun, Fame & Fortune" by Lee Ellis. It is a terrific resource. It lists over two hundred shows to be in the audience or as a contestant. We choose to the game show "The Price is Right." The book gives the ticket info and the way contestants are choosen. We got our tickets by e-mail and we were off to LA. When we got to the studio everything went smoothly and we were interviewed to be contestants. But,our luck was not to be, we did not hear our names announced to "come on down" as contestants. Even though we didn't get to be contestants it was a great experience. If any of you want to be on a game show or any TV taping, I sugguest you get this book. It helped me alot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ticket information, studio information, & clear instructions, February 5, 2002
Lee Ellis' Appearing On Tv Shows For Fun, Fame & Fortune: A Guide For Audiences, Contestants & Guests is a very practical guide to entering game shows such as Family Feud and The Price is Right; talk shows such as The Jerry Springer Show or Politically Incorrect; PBS shows such as The Antiques Roadshow; Court TV such as Judge Judy or Reality TV Shows such as Big Brother and Survivor; or being in the audience of popular sitcoms such as Titus and King of Queens. Each of the many individual shows presented has about a two-page writeup, with ticket information, studio information, and clear instructions for becoming part of the show. Highly recommended for anyone with a serious interest in joining a television show audience, especially if the purpose is becoming a contestant!
