Garage Rock Near-Masterpiece,

This is one of my favorite albums. A friend got me into this band a few months ago, and I ignored them until the song All My Friends came up on my shuffle. I was obsessed with it, and hesitant to listen to the other six songs because I was sure that they could not be as good as the one I'd already heard. That was not the case.
Land of Talk is a straight-up garage band, but with enough pop influence to be listenable as all hell. Doubling as the frontwoman, guitarist Liz Powell gives the band an energy that's impossible to ignore. Even on the downtempo tracks, there's a gritty sweetness to her voice that captivates. There's no way to describe this album adequately to someone who hasn't heard it. Get it as soon as you can.

I just love this ep. I buy in to the Sonic Youth -PJ Harvey - Dinosaur Jr. comparisons. That's why it has its own fresh sound. I also think of The Reputation and Sarge. I usually have a lot to say about why I love a record. This one just stays in my rotation and I find it deeper with each listen. Go out and get it. I have the feeling that this record is only the beginning.....

I saw Land of Talk by accident because they opened for the Stills in San Francisco. Unfortunately I showed up near the end of their set, but the three and a half songs I heard was enough to get me hooked. I bought the album, and I am still impressed. Their sound and energy reminds me of the Blake Babies at their early gritty best. Only seven tracks on this album, but they are all good (listen to three of them on their MySpace page), and I'm looking forward to future US shows and a full length CD.

I first heard Sea Foam (track 2) on [...] and fell in love. I wasn't disappointed when I listened to the entire cd when I got it in the mail. If I had to compare it to someone else, I'd mix Garbage's 'Milk' with Yeah Yeah Yeah's 'Rich'. Probably not a good reference but the cd is good from start to finish and sure to please.

I don't know why more people don't know/love this band but they're great. Elizabeth Powell's guitar work is searing, sweet and dissonant. Everything is perfect about this band. If you like blonde redhead or pretty girls make graves (with more delicate melodies) than pick this up. Its heavy when it needs to be and soft when the time is right....yeah

Refreshing. Love it. Fav album of last year. Love the raw 3 piece feeling. Great band, songs, execution, guitar, singing, production.
