First off, if you suspect your charging port is going bad, it probably isn't. Grab a flashlight and a safety pin/needle, shine the light into the charging port and you will probably see a bunch of lint tightly jammed into the back of the port that is preventing the cable from fully inserting. In my case, it was about 3 years worth of lint that got compressed tighter into the port every time i plugged in my charge cable.

Just turn your phone off (I don't know if crossing the pins will hurt your phone, but it's better to be safe than sorry.) and use the needle to gently fish the lint out of the port and your phone will probably work as good as new. I looked into my old port before replacing it and it looked clear, but I didn't shine a light into it. I spent about an hour swapping out the parts, sweating bullets the entire time, when I could have just cleaned the port out in 10 seconds. Literally 2 minutes after completing the repair, I looked into the old port again, saw the lint, and felt really dumb.

If your port really is faulty, the repair is certainly doable, but you need to be VERY careful and methodical. I consider myself very technically savvy and I got kind of nervous working on this when I realized how easy it would be to screw up. There are something like 12 tiny screws you will have to remove in total. 5 of them are seriously almost the size of a grain of sand. When you remove the screws. make sure you place them somewhere they won't disappear and in a way that will help you to remember where they came from when you are reassembling the phone.
There are a few paper-thin ribbon cables you will have to fiddle with too, generally glued down, so it is extra scary trying to detach them without tearing them.

Worked perfectly and saved me tons of money, turning a barely usable phone into a great phone. Installation was no big deal, but you need to be careful and precise. Trace an outline of your phone on a piece of paper and place the tiny screws in positions on the paper that correspond with where you took them from. And put your animals in another room.

Something very important to note is that there is one piece from your old phone that you need to keep and reattach to this replacement part, and it is not obvious at all, and few here have mentioned it. The microphone on the bottom of the phone is encased in a tiny black rubber box. This rubber box slides off of the microphone, and you need to slide it over your new mic, or you will not get good audio quality out of your new mic. I made this mistake and it was immediately obvious when calling people. I had to dig through the trash and find the old part as a result, and open the phone back up again.

My iphone 5 would not charge reliably after having it for a few months. I decided to replace the charging port myself. I watched some YouTube videos, and it wasn't difficult at all. I have not had any further charging problems since replacement.

I bought this after my charging port would not charge unless you pushed on the lightning cable. If you like to tinker and are condident you can be delicate and can stay calm when you have doubts you can put it back together, this might be for you, otherwise you might want someone else to install this for you, seeing as the screws are small and it's so easy to break something else while you are tinkering on your iPhone 5.

You pretty much have to remove half the components to change your charging port. Also don't forget to remove the runner piece from your old charge port that goes over the Mic or people might have trouble hearing you.

I used a YouTube video to guide me through the process. It took 30 minutes to an hour to complete. My charging port, audio port and speaker work. If you read comments you will find people had to always talk in speaker phone because something happened to the ear piece. I didn't have that problem until a week after replacing the charge port. But I gotta say, having a phone I can use only in speaker mode is a lot better than having a phone that's almost impossible to charge.

Also you can use your Apple ear buds if you don't want to use speaker phone.

Let me known if any of you knows a fix for the ear piece.
