...renew the family pack for the next year! I've read the various reviews of how I can get storage, use Picasso, or other services to create the same bundle, but with the favorable Amazon pricing I keep buying the "empty box" each year!

Product works well, and I truly use it to tie my two college age kids into a common platform. Best services remain on line syncing, and the .mac platform for internet access.

At the end of the day, for $12 a month I can't complain, and will renew again next year.

The Apple .Mac Family Pack is terrific . My son has convinced me Apples are the best

so after 25 years with PC:s I am an Apple Mac Book Pro user 17 in.laptop and Mini.

Now some of our family is connected with photos and music and we love it, Plus

backup space.

Apple is sure setting the computer business on its ear they are so far ahead of the competition also with Leopard and I wish them the best.

With the new increased storage .mac is much easier to justify and generally just that much more useful. Nobody is going to backup their multimedia library in 10G but to keep your contacts, calendars, bookmarks, passwords and critical documents safe and offsite there is no easier way. This alone could be worth while for what amounts to $30/year per person.

But take advantage of any of it's other features and it is almost a no brainer. My mom can post a website with the combination of .mac and iWeb and the photo sharing abilities are incredible.

We are five in my family and we each have at least one Mac (yeah, we're lucky like that). So the family pack seems liek a perfect fit for us.

The best part: online address book access, editing, syncing and sharing.

The iDisk is a nice way to share big files and the recent storage bump is very welcome and was badly needed.

I have a Mac mini at home that's always on and I'm looking forward to the Back To My Mac feature in Leopard, which will make .Mac so much better.

I don't have the new iLife nor an iPhone so I'm missing out on some features... for now.

If .Mac was cheaper, I would recommend it for sure. As it stands, I need to think hard every year before I renew.

I've been a .mac (now mobileme) subscriber for years. It's all the same and either will start or renew your account so don't pay more just because it is in a newer box. The family edition is really nice because I can give the whole family (5) access to the nice features. Top on the list has to be the idisk which you may mount on your desktop as a local drive. iDisk automatically synchronizes with your online account so you have 18.5GB backed up effortlessly. It's also available from the web so if you don't have your mac, you can still get to it using a web browser and any modern computer.

After that, the family really likes the simple method of creating web pages and photo galleries. It's nothing you couldn't do yourself with some free utilities and online services but .mac/mobileme is just so easy. It's really one click (or less). I've been getting the family version for about $75/year. When you have parents who don't feel comfortable with technology, the simplicity is worth the price.

Email accounts are a dime a dozen but they do allow you to create aliases and it is very easy to route your personal domain to your .mac site.

I only gave it 4 of 5 stars because it is getting a bit long in the tooth and they could add more to the service. Personally, I'd like to see an online database included in the near future as well as domain registration. I mean, really, DNS registration is only about $7/year so let's get that into the mix.

I got .mac (now "Mobile Me") primarily to allow me to simply publish a web site for my wife (author of Rebel's Crossing, Laurel Grove, and Broken Hearts, all available from Amazon).

I was very pleased with this product...it's amazing how easy it is to produce stunning web sites with iWeb (software that comes built-in on the Mac). I've spent most of the past decade developing and leading large development teams that produce software for the web, and my expert opinion is that the combo of GoDaddy, Mac, and Mobile Me can't be beat for helping just about anyone to produce professional web sites easily.

Price at Amazon represents a very good discount over what's available at Apple...you can get a family pack (5 licenses) for just barely over what the single license costs.

I love .Mac services, but this has now been changed to MobileMe by Apple. If you buy .Mac now, it won't work. Amazon also sells MobileMe, so if you want this service, that's what to get. Here's a link to it:
